Usualy this problem is assosiated with bad differential side bearing(need tranny rebuild), possibly somthing else you need to post pics.

I am finishing the process of rebuilding my transmission. The total cost for parts came close to $250 (including special tools). If you have never rebuilt a tranny, i don't recommend doing this yourself. To check if your bearing has gone, get under the car and try to move the axle (by where it connects to the tranny) up and down. If there is significant play and fluid spills out, you're one of the many owners with this defect....congratulations, you need a tranny rebuild.

just came back from my mechanic. He said what you saying. Thats a bearing.
And now is a problem. Should i rebuild my tranny or go with 5spd swap. What would be total cost 1st and 2nd operation.

I would recommend a professional to do it for you. The quote that I got here in Connecticut was between $1200 and $1500...You may be able to pull/put the tranny in/out yourself...but opening it up and replacing the bearings/seals requires professional's skills. When you do get it fixed make sure they shim the bearings correctly REFER TO this website go to "my first 5 speed rebuild" on the bottom...it explains your situation throughly.

P.S. are you polish?

I olso spoke to one org member. He said that 5speed swap is easy as hell. He has done it 5 or 6 times allready. And the most espensive part is a transmission.

You need to think a little for yourself. Pull out the yellow pages and start looking. Or try www.car-parts.com

I posted a few weeks ago about Franks Westside Auto, 3001 s Kedzie, having a 5sp 97 i30 in its yard. It might still be there.
