Nice Ebay item

This is probably old news but someone is selling VQ30DET unfortunately with auto tranny for $1900. Not sure if this is good deal but I thought I'd let you guys know.

no room....and we'd need a rwd conversion.....and in the end it wouldnt be worth it cuz we could have bought supra tt with the money spent on the conversion

The RWD engine can't just be turned around and made into FWD. The tranny basically faces the wrong way. So you have to make the Maxima RWD. And if you have ever looked underneath your car you would see there is no room to do anything on the undercarriage.

Umm...nobody has a DET in their Max. Nobody has a RWD Max.

Tilley, however, has used parts (keyword: PARTS) from a DET in his Max before.

It will cost way more then 3 g's to turn the Max into an AWD car. Probably more around 30K.

There are plenty of tubro Maximas. Just not with that engine.

Yes, I realize that, isn't that pretty obvious? I meant specifically with that engine because I have never seen one before...that is, turbo'd straight from the factory. Looks really good.

As to there "being plenty of turbo Maximas", that's just not the same. I am not saying anything with regards to power, but nothing will ever replace the reliability and soild craftsmanship of a factory slapped on turbo rather than some $4k or $5k kit from eBay or any other site claiming "performance".

It's different when a Supra guy does a single turbo T04R conversion or what not, because their cars are turbocharged to begin with and a block like the one that comes with a stock Supra is, for instance, much stronger since it is cast iron (as opposed to our POS aluminum) and ready to gasp much boost along with abuse. It is therefore no surprise that Supras with stock blocks and turbo conversions are often capable of 800+ RELIABLE hp.

Just because they have a strong iron block doesn't mean our aluminum block isn't pretty stout also. If we were to make it as strong as a 2JZ, our engines would end up weighing much, much less. Same strength, less weight.

I don't think I've even heard of anyone completing a rear wheel drive swap. I've read about people wanting to try to do it, but somehow they mysteriously disappear and never show pics of the finished product.
