Exhaust systems

i was wondering what a good racing exhaust system would be, i totally know nothing about the right brands or systems that i should be looking for and need some help. i know alot of people say get a y-pipe but i have no clue what to look for. im basically looking to raise my horsepower and give a nice sound to my car when i hit the gas. I appreciate anyone who can help out without telling me just to search.

Try reading the stickys. y-pipes are best bang for buck, get what you want tehre are literally hundreds of threads on it. Cat-back is actually not really worth the money.

Searching is your friend I have also been looking into buying a y-pipe and the main brands that seem to stand out are budget, warpspeed, and cattman. Theres many others but these seem to get brought up the most IMO. I myself am considering getting a budget Stainless steal y-pipe mainly cause I live in ILL and the winters would eat right through the Warpspeed's aluminized y. I think this thread has some decent info on y-pipes, http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=410871

For cat-back check this: http://maxmods.dyndns.org/index.php?MaximaCatbacks

Do the warpspeed's really not hold up that well in the winter??

is there anything i can do to protect it better?

I picked up a Warpspeed on a group deal, keep checking that forum for anything new, they sold me mine for $170 shipped just b/c I said i was a member of the org,

Budget Y-pipe
APEX cat back

catback is mostly for the sound (out mufflers are ok for NA), and APEX has a large muffler, which gives you a deep growl. y-pipe is for the HP (about 15 at the wheels)

http://maxmods.dyndns.org/index.php?MaximaPerformance check that out... i just added where you can find an Apexi WS for 386.95 i believe. Is known to be the quietest exhuast but also produces a good deep tone at WOT (wide open throttle) Its stainless steel so it will never rust.

Exhuast is one of the items you dont want to cheap out on.

Another route you could go is a custom exhaust. Pick out a muffler such as flowmaster, dynomax. Has a custom b pipe bent. This is cheaper then some of the catbacks.

Good luck. Try doing a google search next time.

Most exhausts are quieted a lil by a huge resonator. I did with my magnaflow.
