A/C compressor or belt squeal how to tell

I have noticed that at idle speeds when the a/c is on I can hear a sound comming from the compressor area that sounds like a constant bird chirp. I was just wondering if there was any way to tell if the sound is the compressor heading south, a pulley, bearing or a belt. I recently did a full a/c recharge with 2 oz of oil. Might I need more. Thanks

Yes the sounds goes away. I know, then it must be the compressor right? I guess I want to know potentialy how serious it might be.
