Hi,
I'm getting a "whum, whum, whum" noise from the rear right wheel, only when cold. I believe it's a wheel bearing but I can't find a rear wheel bearing replacement link, how to, or even the part online.
Can anyone help?

It's not really a DIY kinda job.

If you want to do some of it yourself, you could take off the hub and bring it to a shop to get the old bearing pressed out and the new one pressed in.

Or replace the hub with one from a junk yard.

 

Actually, I work on a military base that has a full service auto craft shop. They will assist me in removal/installation of the bearing, so it's no big deal. I was just concerned because I hadn't seen a link for DIY on this or on your site, motorvate.

replacemant is really easy, just remove the caliper and rotor and using axle hub socket brake loose the center nut , remove the old bearing and replace with new one , if you car has ABS you will have to transfer the abs sensor onto the new hub


The rear bearings are part of the hub and when they go bad whole hub/bearing must be repalced, front bearings need to be pressed out by metal shop.

Yep. I don't think anyone has done a How To specifically for the rear bearings replacement.

I would assume it's similar to doing the fronts. As shown here. http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/704

However, from what nick says above, you might just have to replace the whole hub, which would probably be a lot easier anyway.

 

OK, great. That's a lot easier than I thought. I really can't tell which side the noise is coming from, but w/ 178K MILES, I'll replace them both.
