intake question

Need some advice on which is better. I have a 98 Max, its automatic and i want a new intake system. Which is better, the short ram intake or cold air intake? Reasons why? Thanks for the input!

Unless your just looking for sound, keep the stock intake. There really are no noticable gains with an intake. However, there are noticable losses that happen with automatics & aftermarket intakes. The worst being the lack of throttle response, especially in the summer months.

Yeah, I'd say wait til the winter months to put on one. That's what I plan to do. Then run stock intake during the warmer months.

especially CAI loses throttle response the most due to its long intake midpipe.

well if ur goin to increase input, u gotta increase the output with an exhaust... otherwise there would be no point in gettin an intake

You know when you pop open the hood on the max there is a ram air intake right there where teh release latch is believe it or not (well i LOOKS like a ram air)! It leads to the air box and goes through the filter there and then to the engine. If you wanna get some more sound outta the intake just do a double filter or a really thick filter and then you'll get some sound outta that! But otherwise just keep the stock intake. Also the stock exhaust is actually pretty nice but seeing as u had already upgraded it don't worry about it.

I'm thinking about reverting back to some stock looking intake. I currently have the K&N cone filter with Frankencar midpipe. Would I need to replace the midpipe with the accordion tubing but keep the K&N? What would be the best setup with the K&N. I'm auto by the way.

rome, I'm saying its retarded if u get an intake and not get a proper catalyst converter and exhaust that will be able to support the extra air being taken in by the intake, if u didn't understand that much then I dunno what the hell ur doing with a dual pipe.

Yeah an intake is not gonna give you as many horse power gains. Its the combination of mods that make the inatke powerful. For example exaust, Y pipe, Pulleys, High flow cat.

my bad.. what i meant was. leave it stock and just use regular air filter panels.

penzoils cheaper than fram, i change mines often because i work at an industrial area where dust cakes ur car just after a day's work..

jho.. noise means nothing if it doesn't give you gains...
