Water in fuel or knock sensor? or other?
Suddenly my car started running like crap about 75 miles ago.
I was having cat issues so i simply assumed my cat was getting stopped up but i have a new one on now. My dad is a mechanic and he said possibly water in my fuel but the thing is in the 4 years ive had my max ive never had an issue up here in California.
I was wondering how exactly a car would run with a bad knock sensor, or water in the fuel.
It seems to have about half the power than normal. Basicly it starts out fine but if u mash it, it vibrates and feels like cylinders arnt getting fuel but not like its gona die. then in higher rpm's its allot better.
It also Dies about 3 times when i first start it each day, then Starts up great.
I have new plugs, fuel filter, cat, air filter, and cleaned the TB.
I ran the diagnostic test and got a KS Code.
Thanks,
Dave

anyone got a personal vendetta against you? a friend of mine has a ruthless enemy who popped the gas tank while she was at work and they put water in her tank... the car shook like a bowl of jello and choked... HARD...for two days until she flushed it... but who knows maybe it is your knock sensor...

I highly doubt you have any moisture in your fuel over in sunny California.
A bad KS effects performance and gas mileage slightly, it doesn't cause a rough running engine.
You might have a slowly dying MAF sensor or bad coil packs.

I know my KS just went out at 91k miles, i have a 96 maxima, and i knew it was bad since it was cracked. Please excuse the rest of this reply as i cant find a way to post my problem. My car is now giving me a hard time starting, it has an extended crank and sometimes just keeps cranking without starting. I replaced my KS, my two O2 sensors, and now a crankshift sensor with no luck. If anyone has any insite to what this problem might be, please post, thanks.

No i dont know anyone that would hold anything against me. And i live in a good part of town, no one bothers you over here.
I ran a couple Methanol fuel additive in my tank to remove any water if there is any.
It seems to have improved quite a bit, but theres still a problem. I pulled the codes and got no coil pack codes so they should be working fine still.
Can you test a MAF with a multimeter?
Anyone have any other ideas? Im running out.

just posted that
lol
i did read thoughh...sry man
if you got a KS code then ill be mr obvious, and somebody has probably said this too, to check the KS path
i had a broken KS for a couple of months and went up 2 octane to 94, i noticed a big increase in performance...now that ive got a good part in there i havent noticed a giant increase from 94 and bad KS to good KS and 92 octane.

i have what sounds like the same problem.
the car runs a bit rough at idle, takes a bit of cranking to start sometimes, and stutters/makes popping noises when accelerating hard between 3 and 4k rpm, getting better above that point. I don't have any codes stored either...I'm not sure how this helps you, I guess i'm just letting you know that i'm currently suffering from the same problem without an answer.

Bump. Anyone know what this might be?
I am going to test my MAF tonite.
I forgot to mention i have an AUTO not a 5spd.
The vibration and power loss is most noticed at 2000-4000 rpm range.
lower and higher rpm is pretty good.
