Were you running the AC? I have had 550 to a tank (granted running on fumes) on the highway 3 times and routinely get 500+ on a 600 - 700 mile round trip, with no AC on. 425 is nothing to write home about.

Well, the most I've put in is 17.77 gallons which at your MPG equates to just over 500 to a tank (17.77/15.0 x 425 = 503 miles), although you didn't provide a decimal point in your figure (eg 15.1 vs 15.9 gallons) so that's not too bad. The wide open windows actually detract from your fuel economy and might have had the same effect as AC on and windows closed. My mileage has been based on no faster than 75MPH and you may have been driving faster.

I got 425 miles on one highway tank, but I've got a vq35 with the same transmission (5-speed).

Then that's decent mileage. My trips also entail going from sea level to 7,000 plus feet and down to about 2,000. Then back up to 7,000 on the return trip and back down to sea level as I live at the Coast. I don't think climbing makes a great deal of differerence if you have cruise control on.

Who cares? We're talking about a road trip, not the 1/4 mile. Enjoy your mileage, I'll enjoy my gas bill and ride.

Ive driven from Louisville to Detroit...425 miles with 1/8 tank left over, ac on. with an auto too....even with the occasional spirited acceleration.

Our tanks are 18.5 gal..that times 30 mpg, which is very good, is 645 miles and that doesnt include any accelerating...im down below the line sometimes and fill up and it only usually takes 15, maybe 16 gallons...

700 miles on a tank is a bit much
