60k Service
60k Service
So im a little overdue for my 60k mile tune up (about 68k) and I was gonna do it myself. I guess I need spark plugs...so...I wanted to know what kind of spark plug I should get. What is the best brand and how much do they cost? Also...what is the size of it?...or does it say it in the manual?
Get yourself a Haynes manual and study it as there is going to be a quiz a week from today. Read the stickies and check out motorvate.ca. Only use NGK plugs. The OEM platinum plugs are NGK PFR5G-11, with the alternative being the NGK copper plugs NGK BKR5E-11. They are supposed to last 60K and 30K, respectively. The coppers apparently provide a colder spark and are about 1/4 the cost of the OEM platinum plugs.
I believe the platinums will last longer than 60K on average. The coppers might be a little more prone to corrosion over time.

Apart from spark plugs and numerous visual inspections (brakes, exhaust, suspension, steering, belts, hoses etc): change the transmission fluid if automatic (may want to flush), transaxle fluid inspect (replace if necessary) if 5-speed, oil change & filter, fuel filter, air filter, rotate tires.

Smokeyone....
I did read the 60k checklist before...and thats actually what made me start this thread, but thanks.
But this is a common sense thread, i.e read the manual or the stickys because this subject has been covered and beat to death here ... the info is there you just have to look and find it and not be lazy.
The spark plugs have been discussed ad infinitum. What they cost depends on whether you want to buy them on line or at your local auto supply store. Why don't you phone around and find out or do you want us to pick up the phone and do it for you?
Again...this doesnt help me...I do realize there will be a price differance depending on how I purchase them, but you still could just answer the question. By simply saying "This one is good and I got it for about this much" you could answer my question completely. Doesnt it take more energy to sit here and argue with me?, and how is it possible that at 53 years of age your still finding enjoyment out of a disagreement over the internet?

Read what is available on this website and in other references alluded to.
Buy a Haynes manual. If you do this, you won't be inclined to ask inane questions.
Certainly there is a parts store in your neighbourhood (eg. Pep Boys, Autozone). Check out the prices there. I'm from British Columbia - the best I can get an OEM platinum plug for is Cdn$15.50 and coppers are Cdn$2.74, so in fact coppers are less than 20% the cost of platinums, plus there is 14% tax on top of that. You can also buy them online at Jerry Rome Nissan etc but who could be bothered waiting for them. You should be able to get platinums for about US$10 and coppers for US$2 or less. Does that answer your question?
And don't single me out. There is a plethora of longtime .orgers who would flame your a$$ a lot more than I have for not reading your owner's manual or Haynes to determine what kind of spark plugs you require.

Anyway...now I have another question regarding the 60k service. When reading the checklist, it mentions the PCV valve, but doesnt say what to do about it. What should be done....replacement? How much and how to?
They cost peanuts and seldom need replacement according to my local stealership. There is a way to check if they are still functional. Read all about it - you know, in the Haynes manual you say you own. I think you're lying to us or like I said before you wouldn't be asking us these basic questions that are covered in the Haynes manual, the stickies, motorvate.ca etc. etc. I suggest you sit down and read and don't move your lips or they'll get burnt.
