Nissan OEM Filter Manufacturer

Does anyone know what company manufactures the OEM Nissan oil filter for Nissan? I want to use the OEM filter but not at the marked up dealer price. Thanks in advance.

Just buy a WIX filter at your local NAPA auto parts store. They're Cdn$8.51 compared to $9.99 for OEM and come highly recommended on bobistheoilguy.com (BITOG). I haven't bought one yet but intend to.

Why do you question it? Someone has to make them for Nissan. Do you think they make every part that goes into their cars?

Good find! I use rockauto for brake pads and others but never thought about buying oil filters there. Their part #s at rockauto are identical as Nissan OEM part #s and I just ordered 8 of them. I have one Nissan filter left at home, so when I receive them, I will compare Nissan one with rockauto one. But it is most likely that they are identical.

A way to find out the quality of the RockAuto purchased NIPPON filter compares to the OEM Nissan NIPPON filter is to cut them apart and compare the two.

They have them on ebay. 20 filters for like $40 shipped, or 10 for $20.

Not at quite the prices Dave mentioned, but good nevertheless *if they are the same as the OEM Nissan ones*.

The Nippon oil filter at Rock Auto is not the Genuine Nippon. If you look closely at the picture you will see the two dots inside the 'O' The part number on the packaging is gimmick. I actually bought 10 of those. The quality is probably okay. It looks decent, but hard to tell for sure from the outside. But it is not as good as the Nissan Oil filter. The Rock oil filter's anti drain back valve is black ruber, not orange like Nissan's.

Thank you. You have confirmed my suspicion. I thought the price, particularly relative to the Wix, was too good to be true.

i think you're suppose to replace the washer every 2 oil changes. i think i read that somewhere, but not positive. i have mine on for a few oil changes already. no leaks or anything. but i have a spare just in case.

Just received my filters in the mail, they do have an orange anti drain back valve just like the OEM Nissan filters. I have no cut one open yet for sure but I would think they are pretty similar.

Oh people cmon...$2.22 vs $5.63....Is it really worth the time to look. I think the last time I took my car into Mr. Lube and have them put a Nissan OEM filter (I'm guessing you guys are talking about oil), it was $6CDN i think. Just don't eat out for lunch one day...you've saved your money for an oil filter

Maybe not on an "individual basis" -> but think big - i.e. what if the entire maxima.org 4th Gen community switched... ha ha...

There are people around here who don't put in 91 octane to save 10cents/gallon... everyone's got their reasons. Moreover, this would be an interesting find!

Those washers are like 50 cents each. Might as well change it everytime.

I have been accused of putting up the BS flag a tad early before but not this time. What makes you think you are getting a Nissan OEM filter at a Mr. Lube in Ottawa? I have just confirmed with the two highest-volume Mr. Lube's in British Columbia that you would be getting a Kralinator 266 filter. The Canadian head office is in Toronto and Mr. Lube uses that filter across Canada in a 4th Gen Maxima.

Nice try, but better luck next time!

Forget about a quick lube place - a local Nissan dealer by me used to regularly advertise 9.99 oil changes... I used to wimp out in the winters and go there (since it was actually cheaper than doing it myself)... but... there is always a catch.. in this case... the catch was they used a FRAM filter for that deal. No more oil changes at that place.

What Mr. Lube location in Ottawa did you go to? I would like to get a Nissan OEM filter at a Mr. Lube, but like I said, was informed they don't carry them.

I suppose you've got some controlled test results to show that the WIX filter is better than the OEM one?

Chris take some pics of the filter face and post them... I'll take some of a geniune OEM one and we can compare notes.. I know its not the same as opening them both up, but I'm not in the mood to sacrifice a filter (yet)... perhaps with some persuasion and sponsorship for the greater good of the org, we both can volunteer a sacrificial filter to cut open! :chucke: Cheers.

I will do that tonight when I get home. I have no camera here at work but I will do. I have used nothing but Nissan filters in the past and this one looks just like it to the naked eye. I am lying, there is actually a Motorcraft filter on there right now cause I ran out of the OEM's last change. I will post pics though tonight.
