Installing springs

Hey just wondering if anyone would know a ball park figure of how much it would cost to install a set of lowering springs. I just ordered some H&R lowering springs and want to install them asap...I would like to do it myself but I do not have a spring compressor. Any input is welcome.

yup. $10 or less plus some of your time vs. $150?
you could probably do it yourself also. or if someone helps you, you can learn how to do it.

i hope you have after market struts. you will def blow your stock struts if you put aftermarket springs on. you def need an airtool or at least an impact wrench. trust me, you do not want to be compressing the spring by a hand tool. it will take you forever and ever. i was doing THISMAXISTIGHT's suspension. i did his front with minor complications. but when i got to the back, i couldn't take the bolt that attaches the strut to the hub of the wheel. tried everything, but i dind't want to heat it up since i'm not that good at it and didn't have the proper tools. i didn't want to burn a brake line or fuel line. and please don't say, i do'nt care about blowing my strut, cause later on you will and will have to buy new struts anyways, so why not save the stock ones from blowing by getting them now

well, depending on the springs you are using and how lucky you are but generally, a good rule of thumb.

Autozone has the spring compressor. I borrowed them at no charge. It's also a good idea to switch out the shocks at the same time as the springs.

to make it even more easier you should buy the strut towers too, so you only compress once ;

Unfortunatly, hes on a budget. But yeah, Auto Zone or some place like that for cheap, unless you are military. I was able to get it done with no charge, we get an auto hobby shop on our base.

If you get springs, they're usually somewhere around $150-$200 for decent springs. if you get shocks. they can be around $250-$400. If you can't install it yourself because you don't want to compress the spring, then pay someone which = $150-$250. Give or take a lil, this would cost you around $600-$700. They were selling k-sports for $740 shipped. you might want to contact them to see if you can still get in on that deal. Changing coilovers are one of the easiest things to do as long as your bolts aren't stuck meaning won't budge with any amount of force. Changing the font coilovers requires to remove 5 bolts. 3 on the top n 2 on the bottom. One metal plate for the brake line, and one more screw if you got ABS. the back is 3 bolts. 2 on the top and one on the bottom.

P.S. we understand that he is on a budget, but if he indeed is on a budget, he won't want to put aftermarket springs on his stock struts, yes he will look lowered, but he will also suffer in ride quality when they blow. i'd say save enough money to get both of them or don't get any at all..

Well I actually got myself a pair of H&R for only 90 shipped from a fellow orger so I plan on putting some aftermarket shocks. Right now tho Im just gonna put them on with the stock struts...I have a 96 with 50K miles and its an SE so I think it will hold for awhile. I was talking to a guy on here who was running S-techs on his stock struts for almost a year and he still has no problems so I hope I luck out, but anyways i DO plan on buying some struts to go along with them. How long would you say it takes to change the springs being a first time job EVER?

A friend and I took about 4 hours, but this was springs and shocks, plus I have an auto hobby shop on base that has all the lifts and tools available to use.
