1. anyone done this before if so please help me out i have 99 max the steering wheel has blown airbag so it should be easier just need to get some instructions on removing the stock steering wheel.

2. also i need the right part number for 99 maxima MOMO hub adapter anyone know which one it is they seem to stop at 98?

Not sure about the hub adaptor, try ebay. The cruise control switches many people just mount them down on the bottom of the dash piece by your right leg

 

any write ups on removing wheel and i need the part number though i want to order it directly from mom so theres no mistakes and i got no answer about quick release

 

quick release is another 'add on' option for your hub= costs more

 

i wish someone on the org knew how to do this i am really lost thanks crockpot but i need to know how to actually remove my wheel

 

I posted a similar thread a long time ago and didn't get much help from anyone. Those who have done this went to an extensive amount of work and $$$, IMO its not feasible to do this.

Removing the steering wheel is easy:

1) Straighten out your steering wheel on a straight-ahead direction.
2) Disconnect your battery.
3) Pull out the horn pad, but since yours is already blown just remove the rest of the horn mechanism or anything that gets in the way of steering wheel removal.
4) Matchmark top of steering wheel column shaft and steering wheel flange.
5) Remove nut, you'll also need a steering wheel puller.

For the cruise control pod, you'll need to do your own customization. It'll take lots of creativity on your part to pull this off. Personally, I wouldn't know how to approach this idea which is why I'm sticking with stock wheels.

The purpose of match-marking is to give you a reference when putting everything back together. You'd align both marked areas thus ensuring that your steering wheel will be straight when you put it back on. This would be crucial when reusing the steering wheel but since you are thinking of aftermarket one, then you'll have to eyeball that.

You can rent a steering wheel puller from Kraggen or Autozone.

 

You can get a steering wheel puller from any and all parts stores. I know 2 people who have done this and all I have to say is "God be with you". It is not a fun job.

well i basically need some advise on where screw bolts etc are. is the quickrelease an extra piece i have to add to the momo hub adapter or is it alone cuz momo adapter=$70 why does everyone say it is a very hard job to do??

 

Throughout my vehicle owning years, I have only replaced a steering wheel once to an aftermarket one (never used quick-relese). I am no expert on this but I'm trying to help with the knowledge that I have. Everyone says its hard because its usually not just bolt on. Had it been a direct bolt-on, you'll see more enthusiasts with aftermarket steering wheels. I think the quick-release is a hub adapter with a quick release in one so if you already have an existing hub, you'll end up tossing that. I would suggest you email that seller and make sure that this is what you can use for your car and find out the exact details on what you need to do to get this installed with your steering wheel. J/W what is the point of quick release. i mean i understand having it in a race car because you can get in/out without removing it but unless you are freakishly large (im 6'6" and dont have a problem) then i dont see any reason to go through the extra trouble unless you just like the looks. my .02

 

i like the looks plus i like to take my steering wheel with me in case one day someone tries to steal my shyt when i am done modding it will be very appealing to a thief and maxes are not the hardest cars to take so ill make it hard at every angle plus its just nice to have the option i like it

 

Unless theyre smart like in Gone in 60 Seconds....instead of removing the one with the club theyll just bring a new one with them lol.

If someone really wants to steal your shyt, its going to take more than just a missing steering wheel to stop them. Don't mod it so much, thats the ultimate vehicle security. Or if you mod it that much, make sure its parked in the garage all the time. Other than that, you really can't keep anything secure these days.

BTW, when you go aftermarket steering wheels, you loose the driver-side airbag. When you disconnect it, the airbag light will remain lit. It also might affect the other airbag's function unless you totally disable the airbag system.

 

i know but my airbag is blown anyway so i dont care. i am just going to have to find out at nissan if they can reset the airbag system so that it works with the others ..


As for my stock oem wheel yes i will sell it but remember it does not have airbag?? make me an offer PM me

 

How much is it to replace the airbag anyway? That might be an easier thing to do instead of trying to fit an aftermarket steering wheel in place. It seems like doing so is too much trouble anyway. Plus getting any details regarding this from the forum seems more like a predicament.

What color is your oem wheel? If it's tan and is in good condition w/o scratches on the leather part, I am interested in taking it off you hands. I know I have to get my own airbag since yours blew. Let me know when you are ready to sell your wheel and how much. I've been really wanting to get that steering wheel in my 95 maxima.

 

OK here we go......

1. PM me on instructions on how to remove the steering wheel, I have them wrote up but they are just a little much to be posting.

2.I know you can get a grant hub adapter at pepboys for like 30$

3. WEll you can try to custom mount the swith for the cruise but I just said F#$% it and lost my cruise when I did mine.

4. AS far aa a quick relese hub, well you will just have to find one on ebay or a website that sells sparaco steering wheels, cause to my knowledge they are one of the only ones that make them.

Oh and one last thing you have to buy a special kind of torx socket, its called a safety torx. Nissan used them in 4 or 5 different places on the steering wheel. Its to keep people from stealing the airbags. I bought my set on ebay for 12$ and it took two days to get it in the mail.

Sorry to say thats not true, I never had my airbag light come on..... and I had mine off for two years

 

point of clarification: Removing the steering wheel is easy..just look around the wheel and you'll find the necessary bolts...you will need a torx wrench/tool to remove the rest of the airbag part. Also, you will need I think an 18/19mm to remove the nut that secures the actual wheel. Next take a hammer and tap steering wheel off from the back (lightly) Put on new wheel, tighten nut...drive car...oh..and you'll have to find something to do about the cruise.

 

well momo cleared up the issue and said 98-99 hubs are the same i can use it and they even changed it on thier site i believe so i will be ordering the adapter this week. as for quick releaase i guess no one knows which part i sould get so im screwed with that next weekend i will also be polishing valve cover and intake manifold

 

any word on this adapter anyone say its a fluke or will it work??? i just want mine to be quick release
