Symptoms of a bad brake master cyl?

What are the symptoms of a brake master cyl going bad? What things can cause them to go bad?

When you start losing pressure in the clutch pedal or clutch pedal gets stuck
to the floor.. Ive had this problem... As for an automatic max I dont know of
any symptoms..

What does a clutch pedal have to do with the master brake cylinder?

In some cars, the brake master cylinder holds the fluid for both the clutch and brake systems.

Sometimes, a spongy brake pedal can indicate a worn or leaky master cylinder. A pedal with lots of travel...all the way to the floor is also a sign there may be a problem.

Things that can make a master cylinder go bad...time, bad seals, pitted walls on the inside of the cylinder...bad dumb luck.

Thanks guys. I guess the brake master cyl sounds like its the problem.

btw, on 4th gens, the clutch and the brakes have their own independant hydraulic systems.

Mine just went bad so I had it replaced. As far as the symptoms go, it feels as it it doesn't have any fade on it any more. The more I depressed the pedal the more it decelerates.
