Are velocity stacks REALLY necessary?

I've heard that attaching a K&N popcharger w/o a velocity stack will screw up the MAF readings due to increased "air turbulence" and therefore not allow full potential HP gains. HMMM, I don't know if I buy this.

Anyone have dyno comparisons? with and w/o a velocity stack?

Thanks!

i dont think the velocity stack really does much because of that little wire mesh thing we have goin on in our intake tubing...maybe if u take that out...

That wire mesh is to smoothen the airflow comming into the MAF.

but wouldnt it cancel out the airflow caused by the velocity stack?

Speaking about necessity, pop-charges aren't necessary for improved performance. Thus velocity stacks aren't either. Stock is the best setup for daily and some spirited driving.
