2.25 b-piping vs 2.5 is it worth it?

i finally made my decision to buy the apexi ws2 exhaust. now i need to know if i should go 2.25 or 2.5. i know the 2.5 allows more flow but will it be worth doing it?

You mean you have a choice? If so, what is the cost differential? I would be inclined to go 2.5", that's what my Budget y-pipe is.

yes, i do have the choice. called my local shop and told me they would install the muffler itself for around $70 but my friend got his installed for i think $50 so i'm gonna try to get them to bring it down. but for the 2.5 piping, they said they can do it, but got to see how much pipings involved before they can give me an estimate.
if they give me a reasonable price, i'll do it unless it hardly makes a diff in performance gains which is what i need to know

I am sure you would get improved air flow with the 2.5" piping, which would result in performance gains. If you are going to go to all the effort to make the change, don't be worrying over nickels and dimes at this stage of the game - go for the 2.5" piping.

i agree with NmexMAX. the real deal of getting a custom or aftermarket b-pipe is to get rid of the awful crunch bends so hopefully you are geting mandrel, or else somehow they can smooth out the crunch bends so they are not so drastic. but you are spending the money now, so might as well drop the extra couple $$ and go for 2.5"
i was wondering if tone would be any different?

has anyone dynoed this at all? doesn't courtesy nissan make a 2.25" b-pipe? (or 'did'?)

If you're NA, and planning to stay that way, I'd go with 2.25". There's no real need for 2.5".

To me, the prime exhaust setup for NA would consist of an aftermarket Y, and 2.25" mandrel b pipe w/ magnaflow 14827 muffler.

i would say no on that, don't know for sure though. its a universal and in the pics, seems like it doesn't have that pipe that connects to the b-pipe. if thats the case,
just choppin the stock muffler off and weldin the new onto the connection should do.

In your original post you made it seem like you had a b-pipe system, ready to bolt in. Since we now see what you're doing more clearly, be sure to get a resonator on your custom b-pipe.

I got excited for a second thinking the catback version came out for the 97-99. I beleive apexi should be releasing the 97-99 WS2 catback soon though.

hes just getting the muffler so it won't bolt on....

i jus measured the ws2 exahust out let which is 4' and the piping is 2.5' so basically i think g4nismo is getting a similar setup to the ws2....

I just had a non-mandrel 2.5" b-pipe added to my exhaust - a budget Y, and everything else stock. It made nice gains at the top end - at least that's what the butt dyno is telling me. honestly, between the hacked airbox, y-pipe, and b-pipe, they all felt like similar, progressive gains to me (even though I know that's probably not the reality). If I had plans for an aftermarket muffler like yours, i'd go 2.5" non-mandrel (mine was $125 installed) but i'd add a resonator (few more $$).

don't know if i already mentioned this but i decided to get the 60mm/105mm version
which is basically the 2.25 inlet, well to be accurate like 2.32000 something.
i decided not to do the 2.5 b piping cause unfortuanatly i'm low on $. i'm basically gonna unscrew the bolts of the stock muffler cut somewhere the arrow is pointing and weld the new one on. should be in by the 12th of july and i will let u guys know how it turns out. thanks for the help and opinions

ok the whole point of buying an exhaust is bigger and no crush bends....to me not gettting 2.5" is pointless....even with mandrel bends 2.25 is too small.....get the 2.5"
