Shorten that throw

Hey guys. just wanted to say probably the best upgrade i've done so far for the bucks is a short throw shifter. I got a NISMO shifter off ebay for $30. i HIGHLY recomend you install one. it took me about an 1/2 hour. with some wrenches and sockets. Man what a difference ( i didn't realize just how sloppy the stock gear box was.)

Yeah the guys name was Ching Tsang, But sorry that was his only shifter. He thought it would fit his eclipes (dumb a**) it was a NISMO piece. Anyway some good news is that ebay is CHALK FULL of short throws for maxes and for cheap. Just Type in "Nissan Maxima (Year)" and your golden.

Nismo doesn't make a STS for our maxima. They are all imitations and supposedly can snap very easily. Do a search and you can see from other peoples experiences with these shifters that they are pieces of $hit. I wish you the best of luck with this shifter though and hopefully you got a good one.

Did they give you everything necessary to install it?? I have heard a lot of those e-bay short shifters snapping in mid shift, does it feel like its pretty sturdy?

Yeah what it really is made for is a 350z but its a direct replacement for 89-99 maximas and altimas. it looks and feels sturdy as sh**. Preatty hefty weight too (bout 2 pounds)

any good news about the custommaxima sts i am interested in getting one of these soon but i too have heard that the cheaper ones that orgers have bought on ebay have been prone to snapping. My friend says that he would only install a B&M but i think they are really pricey any more input on pace setter or custom maxima sts would be great and best of luck to you max out

pacesetter if your looking for adjustablility, not hitting the dash (from what i've heard), and price (only around $70 if you look around). i've heard that custommaxima's STS hits the dash. Just go with the pacesetter or B&M. Both have good reviews if you search. Cheapo ones on ebay are prone to snapping and the CM one's are prone to hitting the dash trim.

thanks, that's just what i was looking for. does the pacesetter not reduce the height of the shifter, though? or something like that. can anyone vouch for how it feels from experience? i want something that looks good, and feels great!

nismo does not make one for our car.....
its a rip off of either the stillen short, custom maxima short, or the other many short throws available... as long as your happy with it is all that truly matters... imitation or not u still got it cheaper then most ppl, it all depends on how long it lasts u...

I removed my heat shield for more space for the short throw and now i have wierd wistling sound when i drive independent of RPM. Could it be the heatshild right after the cat one? Has anyone else removed the CAT heatshield?

I got that one too, the "NISMO" unit, been good for me so far, but actually the throw is only very slightly shorter, I consider this the intro to short throw unit, LOL, mine feels pretty solid though i'll keep my fingers crossed that it doesnt snap on me.

has anyone in a 96 had trouble with pacesetter hitting the dash? which shifter reduces throw the most and height? if people have good luck with the pacesetter, the adjustability allows it to change height and throw, right? wow, for the stillen one, you could get 10 e-bay 'nismo' STS!

I have a 96 with the pacesetter, I didn't want to cut the heat shield so I set it as low as I could. It does vibrate a little idling between 3rd and 4th because of this (my fault, doesn't bother me enough to change it). At this setting it misses the trim panel by the thickness of the boot. A little to close but it's definitely better than stock, but not as good as the stocker in my wife's Del sol.

the boot isnt going to affect the height of the stick or the throw, its a little shorter but not very freakin much.
