HID mounting areas

I'm looking to pick up one of the plug and play HID kits from the GB. Most likely a 5000k kit. Not sure from who yet. There are like 3 of them right now. But i was wondering where everyone mounted the box for the HID to. I'm trying to locate some nice mounting areas to put it.

Did everyone upgrade their wiring harness as well? Where did you guys get them?

Is it really 15 mins to set up the kit? And if you guys just used the stock headlight housings.

when i had my HID kit, i mounted the ballast and igniter on the body near the washer fluid for the left side and the igniter and ballast near the battery on the right. make sure to leave the igniter and ballast on the left side as far as you can from the washer fluid unless your ballast and igniter are waterproof, like mine were.

I have my ballasts located under the headlights. IMHO, this is the best place since it is concealed and protected. Here is a pic to illustrate.

You can get the upgraded harness at xenondepot.com for about $50.
Best advice would be to go with a retro. Also if you still decide to buy a kit, it's
better to get a kit with the ballast and ignitor integrated into one.

did you do a retro?

Any have pictures of an HID kit on a maxima w/o a retro? I just wanted to see how it might look like and how the patterns come out.

If i put in an HID kit w/o doing a retro, i'm just asking to get pulled over aint i ?

i have the 6k HID kit, it's plug and play on 9004. the beam pattern with 1995 headlight is horrible, but the light output is a lot brighter than stock halogen and gaybay xenon hyperwhite bulbs.

that's exactly where i "mounted" my HID kit. (more like ghetto zip-tie work)

My 6k HID kit vs. my friend's new G35 coupe.

i hope you reconsider about the HID Kit, read this link here, http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3505

the proper way to do HID is to retrofit projectors. a few here has already done it. i'm almost done with mine. i got the kit from MAXIMABEST from the GB at first. the beam pattern is horrible because the 9004 reflectors suck. the worst part is that one day, a ballast just died for no reason. good thing i got AMEX to refund my entire purchase. I got the OEM ballasts, projectors and bulbs for about $350 on ebay which is not much more than those sh!tty kits from the GB.

IMO...they look like they're missing something(other than the sides)...i think there shouldve been one more projector in each housing cause seriously, that looks like its missing something.

there's no way to fit 2 projectors in there given how wide the TSX projectors are, plus i think that would look funny.

Mine came with some double sided tape that later on was a b!tch to take off.

no but you can pay to have somebody do the retro for you if you're not the handy type.

i have 1 that is done already. the ONLY problem is that it's LOW BEAM only. there is no high beam to it. i used E39 low beam projectors.

I was worried that it somehow might work lose as I just had it sitting like in the pic above and then put back in the headlight but I drove over 5000 miles cross country this summer without a single prob....IMO this is easy and VERY safe for keeping it clean and dry and gaurded.

The choice of single or bi-xenon projector retro is all relative to the headlight you are modifying and the owner's preference. What I mean is that if the headlight you are modifying has separate hi/low bulbs, aka dual reflector housing, then people will tend to use single xenon replacements since the high beam reflector should remain after the retro. For dual filament bulbs used in a single reflector housing, the people will tend to go with a bi-xenon projector so that the function of the low/high beam will remain the same. People that decide on single xenon projectors to replace a single low/high reflector housing do so usually for several reasons. 1) Single xenon projectors can have a sharper cutoff than bi-xenon projectors. 2) Single xenon projectors can have a wider beam pattern than bi-xenon projectors. 3) Single xenon projectors can be smaller than bi-xenon projectors. 4) Their state inspection laws do no require their vehicle to have high beams. 5) All bi-xenon projectors available are too large to fit inside their headlight. If you are thinking about performing a retro into your headlight then consider what I have stated to help make your decision.

dual HID projectors will be overkill. true that there will be much more forground lighting, but given the sharp cutoff of HID projectors, the intense contrast of the cutoff will be very stressful to your eyes. but if you're doing dual projectors purely for looks, then go with whatever that floats your boat.
