Hows Tokico HP Strut/Spring Kit performs?

Hey guys,

Anybody know how Tokico strut/spring kit performs? Its pretty cheap on ebay (about $300). I'm looking for a small drop with little sacrifies to ride quality. I read somewhere that HPs tend to leak out on stiff springs. I assume that the springs in the kit are not that stiff. Am I right? Is it decent or I should really go for illuminas?

Thanks!

I was never impressed with the HP struts. I ran them for about 75k miles with 3 different types of springs. Save a little more dough and get the Illuminas.

The HP struts are just OEM replacements, so the're not very good. The springs are the same springs that come with the Illumina kit, though, and those are supposedly very good. The problem is that the struts will barely be able to control the springs, so your ride will be significantly harder and bouncier.

If you're looking for a discrete drop with minimal sacrifice in ride quality, you need Tein H-Techs (1" drop -- less drop than ANY other spring) with Tokico Illuminas or Koni Yellows. They'll be pricier, but anything else will give you a much bigger drop and a much worse ride.

Then, once you've got those, plan on adding chassis stiffening (Stillen FSTB, BlehmCo stage 2 lower tie bar, Warpspeed subframe connectors) and start looking into lightweight rims and tires. I'd recommend 15" Kosei K-1 Racing or Rota Slipstream wheels with 215/55/15 Falken Ziex ZE-512 tires.

That'd be one hella comfy Max -- comfier than any stock GLE -- and handling-wise it'd easily hang with the Tokico HP kit.

Why would the Tein H Tech be less of a drop than any other spring? The Front is 1.6" and the Back is 1.2".. But thats for when or if you got a System in the back, if your system is good enough, it would even out the height of the max and the back and front would be about the same inch.. I Got Tein H Tech, and Its a better drop then any of my friends Max. Looks nice & Low in the front, only thing is that i got to put the system in the back to kill the 3 finger gap & then finish off the body kit.. And the car will look low and nice

Oops. Just checked Tein's site, and you're right. I had been going by what I had seen on other websites, which listed an approximately 1" drop. I stand corrected.

Still, the H-Techs have a reputation for being tied with H&R as by far the comfiest spring for the Max, so my recommendation stands.

Sorry about the error.
