hello there peeps. been a long time since i been on here... nice to see the new look of things....

I've stopped modding my i30t. Have a diff ride that i've been modding We bought a protege 5 for the wife to use around town... but then slowly started to mod that thing instead. lolz. Now that thing is my go-kart/grocery getter.

When i bought the i30t it came with a CAI, and a y-pipe, and FSB. I have brand new kyb gr2's and a Definitive Motorsports UDP sitting on a shelf.

I was thinking of taking off the mods and putting stock stuff on, problem is
I don't have any of the stock stuff. You guys think is gonna be a pain in the *** to find the stock stuff and even worth selling the mods, or just leave them on and try to sell the new stuff??

 

Since you are in Canada - you have a smaller audience (because of shipping issues)... but you can always "sell" your mods (new and old) with the caveat that the deal includes getting the stock parts in return. Lots of folks do that.

 

keep the mods that are already on the car, and sell the GR2's and UDP on ebay or in the classifieds

 

Protege' vs Maxima ...

All you need is a y-pipe and possibly a stock airbox correct? Airbox is easy to find, y-pipe not as much, but on here's a good place to start for both of those items. Any other mods on the I30? Seems to be more trouble than what's it's worth, if anything get the intake to stock and leave it at that .. What kind of CAI is on there?

As far as the Y-pipe I'd leave on since you cannot tell, and it only does good for the car.

 

the intake, i'm not sure as i didn't actually buy it to put it on.. but from pictures i've seen of diff types it looks suspiciously alot like the place racing one.

yah.. i know.. i enjoy the i30/max on the long drives alot more just b/c it's smoother. (maybe i'm getting old, heh) the pro is quicker than my i30, so each has it's place.

Just the FSB. I have a rear sway.. but i think it's the stock one.
I'm thinking of seeing if there are any local scrap yards.. but if i end up selling the mod for 50 bux and have to spend 30 bux for the stock piece - well that's hardly worth the trouble lolz.

The y-pipe... yah that's true.

 

I can see why you'd want the stock intake (quieter, same or better power), but the Y-pipe and FSTB won't hurt anything at all. If I were you, I'd only replace the intake with stock and keep the Y-pipe and FSTB.

Just get a junkyard intake and call it a day. Go to www.car-part.com, search for the airbox or something, and then call some of the junkyards that come up in the search results and see who will sell you the whole package, including the rest of the piping.

Unless your struts are fairly new, I'd say keep the GR-2s too, since you'll have to replace your struts at some point anyway. You might as well sell the UDP because it'll be kinda pointless, IMO.

 

It doesn't come with a stock FSB nor RSB ... All you have aftermarket is the intake and y-pipe then. Pointless, just leave the FSB and RSB on unless you're hard pressed for money.

Leave it as is ... your car is essentially stock .

 

Actually, 4th gens do have a front sway bar stock. There aren't any aftermarket ones available, so I just assumed he meant FSTB...

 

But not a front strut bar smart as.s. And no one sells an aftermarket sway barm jsut end bushings, only SFC's can come close to aftermarket support for the front end.


When people start a thread like this, they're usually heavily modded, in your case, it's kind of stupid, because you have very little mods if any ... .... is this crap ... :attention Because I have a fast Protege'.

 

What might you ask for the KYB's if you consider selling them?

 

How can a Protege be faster than an I30? You must have dumped a ton of money into it. I second the notion of just leaving the y-pipe in. I priced out an OEM y-pipe from the stealership when I had my Budget y-pipe on order just over a year ago and they are Cdn$1,200 including tax. It seems to me that the y-pipe is a selling feature or you could just be silent on it. Have you had any trouble going through Air Care, I suspect not. I haven't gone through yet but have to before the end of September.

true the car isn't all that modded.. but i never said it was. it's not a life or death issue, just asking advice b/c i don't know if it's even worth it for such little mods.

indeed it has a few mods that make it so. not a ton of money but as with any go fast mods.. "enough"

the ypipe was 1200 cdn?!? wow. i had no idea.

and actually.. i have had issues passing aircare. grrrr. has failed the last two consecutive times and i've had to have a mechanic "do stuff to it" to get it passed.

 

hmmm not too sure.. they are brand new in box. i'd like to get what i paid for them.. but i know that rarely happens. heh.

 

Maybe warm the car up before you go through? I heard that the car will still pass emissions without the stock Y-pipe's pre-cats... Maybe it's different in Canada.

oh i warmed it up alright.... warmed the crap outta it. better gas etc.. the whole pre-air care myth stuff.. short of an air-care dance. i have a feeling that the chronic usage of 87 might be taking it's toll on the emissions parts. kinda frustrating to have to have it fail every 2 years. That has also kinda had me leaning towards taking some of this stuff off, but i don't know why it would affect emissions so negatively. my car was fine when i first got it.. so i assume that maybe it's just the emissions stuff wearing out?

Well I don't know what would possess you to run 87 octane other than to save some money. Do yourself a favor and gas up at Husky. They've introduced a 90 octane gas early in the year that they are selling at 87 octane prices. That's a savings of 11.5 cents/litre over 91 octane at Shell, Esso, Petro Canada etc. Also Mohawk is marketing 89 octane at 87 octane prices for the summer. I've been using the Husky 90 octane for a couple of months and the Max is running just fine on it.

 

hmmm i'll look into it. and yah.. it WAS to save money (alas, my lifer status as a student being fulfilled - lolz).. but after paying extra to get it passed.. well.. you can see how that went sour.

 

sell the pulley and the shocks, you wont get much for the other stuff so you might as well keep it on.
