Wiring to Cig Lighter Adapter

Wiring to Cig Lighter Adapter
I took apart a lighter cell phone charger. I plan on splicing it right into the lighter. The main wire leading into the circuit board has red black and yellow leads. I'm guessing red is + and black is - but what about the yellow, is it necessary? Anyone have a clue based on the photos:
Thanks!

its actually a PDA charger which also splits into a connection for my GPS antenna but to make things simple I called it a cell phone charger. Right next to the yellow wire connection are the letters "FR" printed on the circuit board. That's about as much as I've got:

Looks to me it's part of the positive side. See the picture, the + and -. The yellow one is on the metal board along with the black wire. Looking at your first picture, it looks like there's 2 wires comming in from positive side as well. A black one and a red one, and then a black wire for negative. I'm guessing your PDA or whatever it is, has 2 places where positive touches.

So are you planning to hard wire it in while keeping the circuit board? I wouldn't reccomend doing otherwise, as that PCB probably has voltage regulators and such. If you do splice it in, just cut off the red and black wires before they get to what's left of the old lighter plug, and connect red to the center wire of the lighter, and black to the edge.
On another note, 500th post!!
