I did the bright clearance mod. So far so good, but.

Please don't flame. I did this last night for the hell of it. I have Natural Amber 1157 and clipped off the top nub and reinserted. Boom-brighter light. By doing it this way, it only makes the highter wattage fillament light up. I am perfectly fine with that, as I am afraid of the rediculous heat that both filiments would produce if both lit at the same time. I can definately tell that there is alot more heat on the lense than beofre. But shoudl I be worried? Is it also less heat produced by the NA bulb than the regular clear bulb? I plan on checking up on them every week or so to see if anything is getting messed up in the housing. Are the horror stories associated with this mod usualy due to having both fillaments lit at once? Or is simply having the brighter filiment on enough to cause concern? Thanks in advance.

i did the mod about a year ago. So far ,one light is cracked, but not all the way through, so water doesn't get in. Just a few lines. Also, this light that is cracked is a replacement, not original equipment. So i don't know if that has anything to do with it.

You mean the bulb cracked right? Is it possible for the lens on the housing the crack?

i have oem corner lenses. did the mod and had two cracked corners in about a week. lines about 2 inches long. I had regular autozone clear bulbs in because i thought egay's "hyper" bulbs would be too hot. after they cracked, I put in the hypergays since the cracks were already there. so far the cracks have not grown, but water gets in one of them. I'll get new ones once they pose a big problem or just disconnect them altogether once i get my hid's in. i guess i'm one of the unfortunate ones

It shouldn't crack unless it was real hot from the light bulb and than suddenly got real cold.

I did this mod in like Oct. and its fine... I was worried in the winter, because most of the people that I had talked to said they lived in places where is snows and there lenses cracked. I also talked to some people that live in the south when its warn all year long and they said theres didn't crack so I said WTH and I just did the mod but mine are fine...

Just a heads up that some members ended up with tiny little cracks in their corner lamps because of this. When I blacked-out my corner lamps several weeks ago, I noticed these cracks as well. As soon as I get my new corners, I will undo the bright clearance mod...its not worth it especially if you are running those euro-clear ones. Not worth messing up the corners.

DR-Max: where did you find those euro clear corners? the ones by the headlamps, obviously, right? CE has been sold out FOREVER and i don't know where else they are. can you shed some light on this?

the lens is what cracks, but we have already established this.

I don't have euro-corners. I am looking for 97 corners, it blends in better with the 95 headlamps. Isn't that GD still going on or is it all gone?

so when you do this mod, really one side of the blub is brighting than the other if im correct. So a little more heat from the brighter side shining on the lens would crack the corner lens? I thought that plastic would be more tough....

The 1157 bulbs has 2 filament, the 8w filament that is on with the park lamps and the 27w filament that is on when you turn. The mod basically makes the 27w filament work all the time leaving the 8w filament unused. It generates about 3 times more heat than an 8w filament so naturally it'll break the lense in due time. I'm getting new corners soon and I'll be using 1157 hyper yellows with them. I'll also put hyper yellows in my clear bumper lenses. I will wire everything back to stock.

Contact Steve G at SportCompactOnly.com
He had a special deal a few weeks ago on the euro corners for $45 shipped for org members.
