Aluminum trunk floor mat
Aluminum trunk floor mat
A while ago I saw a sponsor (redlinemax or paradox systems...i forget) advertise an aluminum trunk floor mat for the 4th gen. My cheap cardboard in my trunk is split in half, and am looking for this replacement.
What is also my alternative? Should I Home Depot it? What have others done?

I HD mine, it works out. When I bought my car the previous owner must have has some liquid spill in his trunk or something, which caused the cardboard to warp and I went to Home depot and got a board to put over the stock one so I could use my trunk.
Edit: I also remember a .orger making his own and was going to sell it himself for like 200-400 dollars it folded in half and was kind of cool, I wonder what happened...

i used a big 1/4" thick or so plywood and cut it out cutsom to fit my trunk, its much more sturdy now. works great. i vote home depot it, its just your trunk.
obviously i put the carpet back on top, looks stock still

redline doesnt have it on their site. I think one of the sites had one as a prototype, but never went through with it.
Most of you know that the trunk floor isn't exactly flat. So when you make your new "floor" it is best to put 2 pieces of long 2x4 wood across the trunk floor. Then cut your plywood to fit the floor and secure them ontop of the 2x4's. This will give you a nice and flat floor. Also, you can cut the plywood in two pieces and use a hinge to attach them to each other. Now, whenever you need your spare, all you gotta do is flip up the bottom half of the plywood (the one right over the spare tire) and you have access to it.
Plywood is probably the cheapest way to go.
Paradox-Systems.com has a daimond plate trunk liner as well.

I used masonite
Very much like the original panel, which is masonite wood, not cardboard. The stuff I bought is thicker than the original, and tempered for even better strength. I just traced the original pattern, then attached the original spacer blocks to the new panel. It's been working great for several years now.
I don't like the idea of putting the original stuff or plywood back in. If I wanted that I would just leave mine because I don't see it. If you like the diamond plate look just buy a sheet of it and cut it to fit. Polish it up and put some kind of protective finish on it. Just my .02.
I went to Rona and picked up a sheet of MDF. I used the carpet to trace the outline for the cutout.
Not bad and since it has a full size spare it doesn't sage. Only thing I didn't do is cut the piece into 2, so I have to bend it to take it in/out..
By the way, my dealership quoted me $100CAD for the stupid cardboard piece..

haha - I'm so glad i'm not the only one with this problem, and who also elected to make his own...well, i didn't make my own. I had an old, extendable-style dining room table downstairs that we didn't use anymore, that had semi-sturdy padding for the top of the table. The padding just happened to fit the trunk. w00t
