Welcome back from the army present for my cousin...

I'm about to buy stock black 97 maxima se (to match my car lol) with 125~130k miles auto for $3000. I checked it out with a mechanic buddy of mine and it needs rear brake pads replaced, belts replaced or tightened, and something to do with joints cause car is shaking anything past 60mph. everything else is in top shape. Is that a good deal?

Sounds like a decent deal to me considering it is only 3 grand.

the car shaking past 60 but it is fine under that, have them rotate and balance the tires, my truck did that and it was because the tires were not balanced properly when put on... it could save you some money in the long run if its that and not ball Joints or what ever

Just a thought!

shaking past 60mph? Have that suspension checked out in depth first, as if it needs control arms ($500) and CV joints ($900), it could get costly. Both of those are known to fail on higher mileage maximas.

Note: prices quoted = taken to dealer.

in no way did the CV's cost 900. i changed mine with my friend and it only cost 130 bucks. but if u go to a mechanic its only like 200-300.

But this sounds like a GREAT deal hop on it!

CV Joints should not cost 900... (you got ripped off) got them from car quest for 180 and me and a friend put them on in the afternoon. Sounds like a good buy.

Sounds good guys.. thanks for the input. I'm going to purchase the car @ my buddy's shop on wednesday so right before I hand over the cash for the keys, we can know exactly what's wrong with it. If nothing big deal, I'll be having another max in our family. I'm sure my cousin will be pretty damn happy, or else!
