Manumatic Acting Up

So, after a couple of months with no problems, the manumatic is acting up.

When I start the car and put it in drive, the cruise control light comes on and the starts flashing.

If I put it into o/d off, and turn of the cruise control, I can operate the manumatic normally.

I checked the connections to the unit itself and they seem to be fine. The fuses for both the TCS (cruise control computer) and the cigarette lighter (power) are intact.

I may reconnect the power to some other IGN source to fix the problem, but does anyone have any ideas on what this could be?

:o)

Slimer, I was going to PM you today but then I saw this thread. While a tad off-topic, I just wanted to tell you that I actually installed mine last night (The Wizard and I).

However, I am less than pleased. This thing is near worthless. I am extremely dissapointed. I am going to list what I don't like about it and I am hoping you can tell me that what I am experiencing is not normal (although I feel I connected it correctly).

When turned on, the digital display reads "3" and turns off OD ("OD Off" light comes on). It doesn't matter if you were in 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th, it reads 3 when turned on (and you get an annoying 'OD Off' light). It should read the gear you were in! Period. But I'm not done yet. If you were in 1st or 2nd when turning on the manumatic, you still are. Even though the worthless display reads 3. If you were in 4th, it downshift you into 3rd.

The stupid 'OD Off' button is on when you are in gears 1,2, or 3. How annoying. It goes off in 4th.

You can't shift into 1st if you are in second. The stupid display will read "1" but you are still in 2nd. You can downshift from 4-3 or 3-2 at any time (which is nice).

If you are on the highway, let's say in 4th gear, and the dispaly reads '4', and you floor it, the car downshifts to 3rd just as if you didn't have the manumatic! But does the display change from 4 to 3? No.

Let's say you are on the highway, in 4th, display reads 4 and you exit and come to a stop. The car downshifts just like it normally would but the fricken read-out still shows '4'. Lame!

You turn the manumatic on and as I stated before, the OD Off button comes on. You turn the manumatic off, does the OD Off light go off? No! Mickey Mouse.

When you press the up/down manumatic buttons, there is a .5 second delay before the car shifts.

The relay makes a click sound when shifting into 1 or 2 but not 3 or 4. ?

I thought this was a true choose your own gear thing. I thought I could start off in 2nd gear if my heart desired, I thought I could shift early before the auto would have, I thought I could gas it and have the car not automatically downshift, I thought the shifts would be instantanious, I thought the readout would actually match the gear I am in, etc., etc.

The only use for this is to hold the gears a little longer while accelerating and to force a downshift. And I admit, it is nice to be able to hold the gear. I shifted at just under 7k last night (rev limiter gets you at about 7). But I would hardly call this a true manumatic.

Anyway, now that I have vented, I would assume your problem is connection related Slimer. There are a lot of connections that need to be made. Check them all. Does the red light on the manumatic box light up? If so, it isn't power. How did you connect your wires to each other? Solder? Good luck.

well the thing is a glorified relay itself.

Josh. Hmmm. I don't know where to start. If I pm you my number, can you call me on Friday and we'll talk. I'm supposed to be making a little road trip, I will have plenty of time.

Come to think of it, James has my number.

alright, so the enigma gets a little more interesting.

So yesterday, I notice that when i turn the cruise control of, the light is still half lit.

Then, I put it in drive with o/d on and then it would only go up to third gear, the o/d off light was half on to. So I take o/d off and it automatically pops into fourth. Crazy.

Then I test the manumatic with the o/d off and it functions normally. I press the o/d button with the manumatic activated and then the cruise light starts flashing and 4th gear operates normally.

WTF is going on?

Take it out and make sure the car still runs normally.

I will when I get a chance, but I have two full time (50+ hours/week) jobs that I'm working and taking master's classes. I will have time in two weeks.

I would just unplug it, but some of the wires are hijacked and it needs to be connectes for the tranny computer to work "properly".
