If you have a torn CV boot and your grease has leaked out and the joints inside have become dry and dirty, you will hear a loud clicking sound when you make sharp turns. As it gets worse, the noise will become louder and happen more often, and eventually you will hear it when going in a straight line. Do you suspect your axle of being bad? are you having problems?

I'm hearing that "1 gallon empty water jug being tossed around" sound when I go over bumps. I guess it's not the axle.

Could be a blown strut.

I hope it is, because I'm doing a suspension upgrade soon. The clunking/rumbling is constant. I basically hear it everytime I go over a couple cracks in the road. It's very loud and annoying. My dad says I don't need a new suspension, he's a flame job.

As others said, one of the symptoms when turning is "click click click click"

Ok thank you guys for all the replies! Now I know my axles are good, for now...

I need to concentrate on a suspension upgrade.

I have a sound too when going over bumps, but it's because my exhaust is loose. Could that be your problem also? Sometimes I hear it (just a little though) when I first accellarate or brake.

NO, my exhaust is tight. And I know what sound your talking about. Get a new hanger for your Y-Pipe, it's rusted.

From the sound that you said it's definitly blown strut I got that sound on both my 2004 and 2005 SL and it was a blown strut.
