I didn't realize so many Maxima owners were hypochondriacs.

Well not only does it filter the air, it helps keep the dust down.

Miss Trini I think I know what a filter door looks like and a actual filter looks like. all I know maybe who ever had my car before me may have installed one or what ever the case. just because you don't have one don't mind that it couldn't possibly be in another... geez. it's people like you that take a thread to far or out of it's content.

First off, I am no Miss buddy boy...and second do exactly what I said and post a pic. Why are you so hesitant to post a pic? Are you afraid that you will get laughed at and be ashamed?? Even some of the Mods are waiting to see this pic to prove them wrong...so do us the honor please..

Dust as Kevlo911 says not only that when you are driving you are exposed to higher quantities of particulate matter, soot, and other pollution. Especially when you are accelerating. I wrote a paper on diesel vs gasoline vs biodiesel emissions. It's a completely valid concern.

Maybe nissan should have put on in the 4th gen maybe it is important. All this pollution 4th gen owners have been exposed too over the years may have killed some brain cells resulting in many of the less intelligent posts we seen in the 4th gen forums this thread included.

Don't want to complicate the thread but did you all know that the japanese 4th generation imports we get in New Zealand have a big plastic box thing that sits under the parcel shelf in the trunk and is quite large and has vents to and from the cabin that feed into it. There is a three speed fan switch on the centre console on some models and on the dash on others that controls it.Not sure if there is a filter in there to change as did not look closely.
Now as far as i can tell it is an air ioniser that they use to remove some contaminants from the cabin air. My car it has been removed and only the chopped off wires are left hanging there but i did test drive one a week ago at a dealers and it was still in place and working and just hums lightly when turned on.
My J30 had something similar but alot smaller and sat on the parcel shelf inside and about the size of a small fan heater. I removed it when i first got it as it looked so ugly sittng there with the paint all faded on it.
It was still working at the time and had a switch beside the main cruise control switch on the dash. Cheers Vee

Even if there is a filter in your imports, your imports arent USDM. Over here in the US, our 4th gens did not come with it. Cars in different countries tend to come with different options and equipment.

This thread will not lock until the pics are posted. EVen Kevlo wants to see these pics of an "in-cabin filter" that no one else on here knows about...

When the pics are posted and its not the in-cabin filter, yea I much agree that it should be locked then but for now, lets wait till najee posts us these pics...this is the most anticipated thread this year so far...the pics are going to be epic

The guys are waiting for me to post a pic or pics of the in-cabin air filter and I did promise and have not forgotten and I explained why I haven't yet. But like you said WOW this is really important

I'm trying desperately to get more important items done to the car which now it's in the shop cause of a need to get the work done faster. Otherwise I would have done it myself, but it my only car and I have to work also. But guys I hear you!!! and thanks for the bump

What? Flaming someone might help them fix their car?

There's plenty of info on this site, if people really want help they can find it. Then there are the problems that have yet to be fixed, they have their own threads, and then there are the lazy's who want to be spoonfed. What's your point?

The original question has been answered already, then someone else came in and said we were wrong. So we told him to prove it basically, there is no flaming involved here. He has yet to provide proof, even though he said he would. If he would show us a pic of what he is talking about, maybe some confusion can be cleared up now, so that in the future people will know.

+1. Diamonds, he said it word for word here...the thread was answered but someone said we were wrong so until we see these pics, I don't see why this has flaming involved...

Like I seen someone stated before in another thread, some people in this forum do tend to get very touchy when it comes to stuff like that. This is just the internet people..

I had a 98 I30 that supposedly had a cabin air filter for it. I know I know Different car. However a lot of the same things are identical to my 99 Maxima.

Reading this makes me want to take the ten minutes to rip open the glove box right now and see if there is one. Well see if I can settle this and do it tomorrow. I think its plausible .. Both ways with and with out.

S**t this car has 3 THREE different axles.. They ALWAYS get mixed up. I know bc I bought the car with the wrong one in it. PEP Boys gave me a wrong one and FINALLY I got the 3rd one that was the right fit.

Point being. That is very likely we could have it or not have it.

LOL.. Again I will try to do this myself to end the MYSTERIOUS cabin filter Tomorrow.. My wife is stationed in the middle of the desert there is a ton of dust out here.. would be nice to know if we have one or not!

I never heard of Nissan offering an in-cabin filter before the 2000 model year (pickups and SUVs).
