In-cabin Microfilter

I have found this in the how-to's:
http://www.greghome.com/Greg's%20Garage/2002MaxSE/In-Cabin%20Microfilter%20Change.htm
but that is for a 5th gen. is it still the same procedure for the 4th gen. ?
what about part Number ? how many of you have ever done this ?
Thanks

Nobody has done this yet, because 4th Gens don't have an in-cabin filter!

I was under the impression that we did, and it was behind the glove box. I'll look at my haynes later today.

Yes, have you looked at that picture? The air that is pumped into our car is sucked directly from the outside (unless you have recycle air on), and outside air is nasty. Look at this picture: http://www.greghome.com/images/Maxima(2002)/Mods/Microfilter/05-Old_New%20Filters.jpg Look how dirty that one on the left is!

I was under the impression that the 95-96 didn't have the in cab filter and that the 97-99 did. I guess I'll check my friends 98 later this week.

The in-cabin microfilter was first available on the A33 5th Gen year 2000 and only as an option so it was not standard equipment. However, you can purchase the in-cabin microfilter and instill it into any A33 without any problems. As for the A32 4th Gens, I have a fully loaded 99 SE and can confirm for you that it does not have any in-cabin microfilter equipped nor was it ever an option from the factory.

The smell is from mold build up in your vents. Take a can of Lysol and spray it at the vents on the outside locate just below your windshield. Then turn on your AC to allow the Lysol to be sucked through your vents. Should take about 10 minutes for your air to smell good again.

Now is the in-cabin air filter suppose to remove odour from the cabin or does it remove micro-particles that may contain pollen and other stuff, which can trigger an allergic reaction?

Because I have been thinking...if it's only there to remove the micro-particles going into the cabin...Can't we just put some sort of filter in the vent it self?

Just a thought...

I've always thought there should be some way to rig an in-cabin filter of some sort in our 4th gens. I don't have the mind to create one, though.

come to think of it, when I tore apart a 95 dash to get the passenger's side airbag out, I took off most of the piping behind the glove box and didn't see anything. That piping is pretty thin stuff though, so I'd imagine you'd be able to put a filter in line with it.

yea, you're from TURKEY and you have a 2.0. Hence, different car, different options. Why would you even post this? Read the Stickies. Educate yourself.

There probably is a way to rig up a cabin air filter for our cars but I dont know
of anyone who has actually done it.

It would be a great writeup though and im sure many people would be interested.

The 4th Gen. HowTo's? I wrote that thread. And I just searched it for the word "filter" and only the Fuel Filter came back...so...I don't know what you're talking about.

I've had a 97 and a 99. There is no filter. To the user above who claims it does, if you are referring to the little foam piece that goes around the blower motor, that is not the microfilter.

And how are you "confirming" this? By simply stating that you do?

Only RHD maximas had it from what I read. When I removed the dash I did not remember seeing a spot for a filter.

With enough money you can do anything, but it would essentially be a waste. Why do you want one? So the air in your car will be "cleaner"? Well unless you live in your car, it doesn't make much difference, because as soon as you step outside, open a window or door, all of the "polluted" air is going to get into the car anyway. And every time you walk outside, you are exposed to the "polluted" air.

Thank you DaGod for confirming that I know I saw a cabin filter when I had do change my blower. Problem was that I couldn't find a replacement because every local claim that my car did come with one. But researching the 5th gen filter it look as if that one could fit right in. Is that what you did? This will be my next task/post showing the 4th gen owners that we do have one it's just nissan drop the ball on a replacement nor did they speak of it in the repair manuals and is very difficult too get. Also it's not attached to any piping/tubing is located next to the blower assembly. You would have to remove the glove box door to gain access. Now I don't know if the previous owner installed this filter or what but if you don't have one I think the 5th gen filter will fit. don't quote me until I show proof, but this will be my next task.

This topic is getting out of control and so many different answers. I believe the confusion here is the filter door that moves when you change from recirculate air to outside air below the glove box. This is NOT considered an in-cabin microfilter. If that's the case, a lot of cars would have it. Again, that flap is NOT an in-cabin microfilter. If someone still feels that there is one in a 4th gen max, go out to your car, take a pic of the car and where you are removing it from before posting..
