Control Arm bushing replacement questions
Control Arm bushing replacement questions
Guys, I've read through the FAQ's and all and still have some questions regarding bushing replacement. All the threads I can find referece 3rd gen. I need to replace my control arm bushings and I have a very limited budget. I was probably going to try this myself if possible. If all else fails and I get stuck I have to ASE mechanics to help. How complicated is the job? Does anyone have a deatiled thread with pics on this? Tools needed? I want something really easy to install and I'm not so much worried about handling or a busing that will last 150K miles as I am ease of install and price. I simply need something that will work for cheap and easy. I've read urethane installs much easier is this true? Any tips or comments.
Thanks
Todd

Cattman is offering a sale on Energy Suspension bushings... see the Group Deals thread: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=360725 It's a long thread but there's a lot to learn in there...
I think you need the ES3111 Front control arm set 1995-1999 Maxima - $28.95
Maybe someone else can chime in with installation tips.

For installation, you have to pull the LCA off the car, torch/cut the old bushing off and press the new bushings in. Some have just decided to replace the entire LCA as an easier, but costlier alternative. You can buy entire LCAs off Ebay for 80 bucks a side, that include new ball joints and new bushings.
If you are looking for some energy suspension LCA bushings, I have the entire kit that I purchased off Cattman recently that I won't be using - as I am going to replace the entire LCAs. Shoot me a PM and we can work out a reasonable price.
Cheers.

Since you have a 1995, I would STRONGLY urge you to consider replacing the entire control arm--reason being, the ball joint is likely worn and in need of replacing. As njmodi says, the aftermarket LCA's off Ebay are inexpensive and have gotten solid reviews from other org members. You do not want to replace the bushings only to have to replace the ball joints a year later. Also, if you do not have the proper tools, I would get a mechanic to install the parts for you--your basic hand tools may not cut it.
