Flushing Auto Tranny

Since I didnt get any responses in the Fluids section, I decided to post here

How much do shops on average charge for flushing the auto tranny?

I have 142k miles on my car and I have drained and refilled the oil twice within this year. The fluid is still dark brown, kinda scary since it reminds me of the motor oil. I bought this car with 117k miles on it and have not had a full flush. I do not have a garage or a driveway nor the tools to do this on my own. So can any one give me info about where to get it done, how much to expect and so forth. My 1st to 2nd shift is jerky and some times its really violent.

So some one help me. BTW, any one try AAMCO?

I was quoted for 110 by my oil change place but I said no because I wanted to see if I can find it for cheaper.

Only $80? Are you sure because that sounds like the price for a drain and refill instead.

I heard of a place that has a vacuum tube and they vaccum all the metal parts sitting on the screen filter and then replace the fluid. has anybody heard of this procedure? Any comments?

PS. Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm still a newbie.

Any one try AAMCO? I called them and they said they do a diagnostic first which is 49.99 but if you get your car serviced there then there is no fee. The powerflush is 99.99 and they use the Dexron ATF. Any one out there trust AAMCO?

I know they say they are the tranny specialists but I just would like some opinions.

I would not take it to AAMCO. I have heard more negative things about them but that is just my opinion.

At the dealership it only cost me about $132 for the whole flush which is not that bad but I did get a $16 discount so actual total cost was $115. I know some of the techs up at my local dealership.

Did they put it on a machine or they dropped the pan?

not rocket science

Flushing should be about 110.00 or under including fluid. The machines really do work, and even the quick lube guys can handle this one. Well worth the $.

They put the machine on it I was sitting there watching him do it. I would not let them drop the pan for $115. It is a very nice clear red color now too but I only have 78k so it has to been driven that far or long.

When does a tranny need to be flushed? Does it have to do with the mileage of the car or the quality of the fluid in the tranny? My car has 105,000 and I dont kno whether or not I should do this...

Well in my case, I did the drain and refill twice this year and the fluid is still brown. It almost looks like engine oil when it should be pink. If your fluid is relatively pink then just do drain and refill, if its brown like mine then go for the flush.

BTW guys, I am going to get it done through Jeff @ maximum tuning and he will do the dropping the pan method of doing the flush. I hope it makes a difference because the 1 to 2 shift is so messed up.

now!

I think trans flushes are the cheapest insurance for AT's. Not that changing fluid will guarantee long transmission life, but it sure helps. Every 30-50,000 is not too much. Mine has been done four times in 113,000 miles.
