The only thing I hate about our auto trannies is the horrible gear ratios.
then why my cousin fried his tranny after his 5th drag on his 91 autotragic CAMRY (aside from the fact that most Toyotas suck and aren't meant for racing)? he'd just floor it on 1st and it was good the first two times but after the 3rd problems started showing up and at the 5th time that engine was smoking harder than a recording session in Snoop Dogg's Basement

yeah but what you dont want to do is sit there at the light power jacking it for too long at high rpms.. only for a couple of seconds before launch.. doing this for too long will also ruin your tranny..

Torque convertor multiplies it and you don't have one in a 5M.

This is exactly what you should do. Just punch it and let the tranny do it's job. It will chirp from 1st to 2nd, but that's the only loss of traction you'll get. Just a chirp. Then all the power is put to the ground. I think the Nissan engineers did a fine job with the tranny. The lag from the auto is just enough to stop a person from spinning his/her tires. Less spin=quicker ET. I think it's great.

The horespower loss an automatic has (compared to a stick) is negated by it's faster shifts. After all, we all see how the front of you manual equipped car drops between gears. If you haven't seen it, an auto (modified) equipped car jumps ahed at the gear change. Furthermore do a google search on "manual valve body" if you think an auto always overrides user input in regard to gear selection.
"Manual valve bodies replace the automatic transmission's valve bodies with a manually controlled one. It is similar to using an AutoStick or Tiptronic except that it does not automatically upshift or downshift if you forget."

Second, do a google search on "transbrake". This is an awesome setup for launching!

I tired of explaining this crap. All of you manual worshippers can look this stuff up for yourselves if you don't believe me.

yeah, that works for domestics. That arguement is null seeing as the fastest maxima known is a 6spd manual.

so can I, well not smoking because I'd prefer to live to an old age, but all the same.

Youre gonna laugh. But would you believe I've never driven a standard in my life? I'm 29 yrs old, and never touched a standard. Girls laugh at me when I tell them I don't know how to drive a standard.

Last time I checked SR20DEN has the fastest NA car on this site, and Mathew has the fastest boosted car, both manual transmissions

I just floor the gas pedal most of the time. I dont neutral drop, but I still torque brake some times. Only at the track I will do that.
