Seatbelt light on Dash!
I was wondering if there is any way to turn off the seatbelt like on our dashboards. I Do not wear my seatbelt and was wondering if the light can be shut off without the buckle in the slot.
thanks

Well, I suppose you could pull out the gauge cluster and remove the bulb for that indicator light. Not sure if that would cause any problems with the other indicator lights.
But why not just wear the belt so you don't go flying through the windshield when you hit something?

Damn man, I can't fing believe that people still blatantly decide not to wear their seatbelts. I've had two friends die from car accidents related to not wearing their seatbelts. One had had his liscense for a month, the other turned 17 3 days before he tragically died. Wanna know why not wearing his seatbelt caused his demise? I'm referring to the kid that died 1 month after recieving his liscense. He had a friend in his Jeep Grand Cherokee, who had been wearing his seatbelt. The Jeep rolled multiple times doing about 70 mph, and the kid who died was ejected from the vehicle, and struck a tree. The kid who had his seatbelt on was able to walk away with a scratch on his leg. For someone to ask this kind of question only makes me wish that you were in their position, and not them: six feet under.

Why would you want that light to go away if you were wearing your seatbelt?? Wearing a seatbelt makes that light go away.
Let me apologize for the post - it's still new, ya know? It's something that's hard to get over, and when something like this thread comes along, it really gets me pretty angry. Not necessarily about the question, but about the senseless death of two people younger than me, one of which I was very close with, the other I had known for years, which could have been prevented by the simple act of wearing a seatbelt. My only hope is that you make better decisions, and choose safety over comfort. In time, you should be used to wearing one, and eventually, like most people, you probably won't be able to move your car w/o a seatbelt on.

seatbelts work
That being said I don't wear mine around town. I live in a very small town, don't go over 30 MPH and don't put it on for intown driving. I am an adult and can make those decisions for myself.
That all being said, I too want to get rid of the seatbelt light and am happy to hear it can be done. I will try to disconnect it tomorrow.

i am sorry to hear about your friends, i just didnt want this thread to turn into weather i should wear my seatbelt. That is why I said stright up " I dont wear it" because I knew somebody would say why dont you just put it on. fanaticrockford is the only person who answered it without saying why dont you wear it. Its not the question! Dont tell me to make better decsions either because I have heard many people who have died from wearing it because they could not get out of the car quick enought. This is all besides the pt, i wanted to know about the light removal... thats IT!

Dave Sz...first of all im not an idiot, and secondly i think it was a good quesiton, some people just dont know how to answer a question without getting their stupid opinions involved that have nothing to do with it. Go post another reply, maybe you will hit 7000 tongiht, idiot!!

You are an idiot. How are you gonna sit there and type that you're not an idiot. You didn't give a good reason besides that you've heard of people dying from wearing seatbelts cause it stopped them from getting out of the car fast enough. Well guess what, the stories are most likely made up BS by other idiots like or the people in those stories would've never had a chance to get out cause they'd be 20 ft in fron of their car after flying through the windshield cause of no seatbelts. You are an idiot and I really hope you decide to wear your seatbelts. It takes 2 seconds to put them on and 2 seconds to take them off. Those 4 seconds could save many yoears of your life.

Oh look 6,306. What does my post count have to do with your ignorance? You got your answers for the question. I just wanna know why you would put yourself in that risk? I feel scared as **** when someone in my car doesn't have a belt on or when I'm in someone else's car and they aren't wearing their belt. Put it on everytime your drive for the next couple weeks and it'sll become second nature. You won't een realize you're putting it on and you'll laugh at yourself for making a big deal out of such a thing.

thanks for the adivce man...ill try to start using the belt, i think i never started to use it becuase i do landscaping in the summer and plowing in the winter where im in and out of the trucnk every 5 mins.

When I started driving I didn't like using hte belt either. Then whenever I would go somewhere with my parents they wouldn't even start the car unless I had the belt on. Trust me, you'll get used to it fast.

It's a personal choice. Good or bad. No sense in trying to give safety lessons here. People do what they want. I don't wear it myself. But that only effects me, not anyone else. So what was the resolution to the original problem again?

What kills me is the fact that some drivers like to drive like their at the race track all the time. High speed, hard turns ect. Funny thing is that you'd never get onto the pavement without the proper safety equipment on. That includes a helmet, seatbelt and depending on how fast your car is, a roll cage.
Keep something in mind, it's not always you who's that person racing down a city street, It could be the driver coming at you head on.......
The safety systems in our cars are designed to keep us alive in case of an accident. There are laws in place that help inforce the importance of wearing seatbelts. One main reason behind that is the SRS Airbag. If your not wearing your seatbelt and the front airbags deploy, you can get seriously hurt. The two work together to help protect you in case of an accident.
Walshy, you've only been driving for 4 years, and it's obvious you still have a lot to learn. Hopefully it wount take an accident to help you learn that one of the most important things to do while driving is to wear your seatbelt. Remember, your not the only one on the road.

well as for me, i had an accident last week saturday like at 2AM, I was wearing my seatbelt, wich is funny because lately i have not been using it. but that day i got in the car and decided to put it on, half a block after BOOMM! I crashed with this guys and thankfully i was wearing the seatbelt, got off with the bruise/burn, rather than my head against the wheel. So wear your seatbelt.
My light is always on, regarding if i use the seatbelt or not (i know that is a problem) but....I have learned to love it. (hehehehe)

In 95, my brother and were valet parking cars at a dog track down in Tampa. We also hardly wore our seatbelts because we were in and out of 50-100 cars a day (each of us). As a general rule we didn't wear them the rest of the time either.
Since we lived together at the time we drove to an from work together as well. We were driving home after work one night and for some reason both put our seatbelts on (we've since decided it was because we were both really tired).
Well, before we made it home, a drunk pulled out in front of us and an off-duty cop that was also working at the track, we both hit the car going maybe 40. The cop hit him first, pushing him farther over into our lane, we hit him hard.
A second later, a drunk girl smashed into the back of us, hard. We were in a b13 Sentra, it was a metal taco after those two hits.
Since I was leaning over taking off my shoes when we hit the 1st time, I was knocked out during the 1st hit, don't remember it.
I came too before the 2nd hit, that felt terrific.
No airbags in that car, if not for seatbelts, we would have been in physical therapy for more than the 6 months we were. I still have slight nerve damage in my arm from where my elbow put a huge dent in the dash from the 1st hit.
We, of course, have worn them since then, which is good because I got hit at a stopsign by a guy doing 50.
