ok, so i had a CEL, n i took the code out, 0509, fellow orger helped me out, i forgot who, but thank you. he told me that it was my front 02 sensorl. i've gotten this CEl b4, usually happens when i floor it a lot. so i cleared it, n see if it would come back, it did because i floored it quite a bit afterwards. but thats not the case. so i ordered a new 02 sensor n was about to replace it. my mileage was getting killed!!! but then once i got the 02 sensor, the CEL went away. so does this mean i should change it anyway??? i'm not saying that i wanna be cheap on saving the 02 sensor, but why change it if its ok. maybe my i30 is playing a trick on me

IIRC, the CEL will stop turning on after X number of ignition sequences, whether it is 50 or 100, i'm not sure. but that doesn't mean the code isn't still there. change it. same thing happened to me.

Change it. My rear O2 did the same thing but after a while the CEL came back.

Actually thats incorrect. You are right in that the CEL will turn off after X number of iginition/driving sequences. BUT, it will only turn off if the problem stored is not detected during that time...

Right - so if you had checked for codes when the light was off, you might have pulled the 0304 (since that doesn't set the light), but I would expect that the 0303 would not be there. Once the ECU detected the 0303 failure, it set the light again.

All of you that have changed your O2 sensors, were you able to find a socket that fit? All I've been able to find are 7/8 and my sensor looks to be 16-18 mm. It's the rear sensor on a 96. It looks like I'll have to remove the cat heat shield in order to get a wrench in there.
