XM placement

Just got my XM Radio kit trying to decide where I want to put it. I really dont want to have to put the antenna on the outside of the car.

Where did you put your antenna? how is the reception? Where did you mount the unit at? Pics?

Why don't you want the antenna outside the car?

When my friend brought her portable unit on a road trip with me, we had it laying on the dash at one point, and then on the rear deck, but it didn't get that great reception in either place.

However, when we ran the cable out on top of the car, it worked flawlessly.

The best place where to put the xm antenna is all the way in the back between the rear speakers. I get great reception there. The Xm tuner i put it behind the stereo, this way nothing gets in the way.

I would think that you would get the best reception on either the trunk or the roof. and since the roof doesn't make it look too appealing i would personally put it on the trunk lid.

I am curious why you didn't get good reception in the back windshield i would that if someone wanted to keep it inside that would be the best place...

Got my antena on the trunk, like 6 inches away from window and the reception unit right above the stereo head unit-nothing is on the way and its not blocking or disturbing anything. And I have seen a lot of the cars with the satellite and so far I think its the best place besides when it is in your head unit.

I used to have my Sirius antenna on the rear deck. It worked great there until I got my windows tinted. The reception sucked under the tint.

I had it painted body-color and moved it to the trunk:

I have my Sirius antenna on the rear deck, between one of the speakers and the third brake light. It works flawlessly back here, but I only have the factory tint on my car. Darker tint might pose a problem. I think it's a lot better than having it on the outside.
