MDF, thats a good idea, mine is warped and doesn't fit over my full size spare. Maybe I can cut a new one and put spacers under so it will sit flat over the tire.

Those diamond plate covers are nice, but $110 + shipping?

Damn.

Of course, a group deal could be done...

Lots of ebay companies seem to custom-cut diamond plate for car mats. One of these companies could probably make some up for us for a lot less money. Probably closer to $60 plus shipping.

Anyone feel like looking into this? I've got enough projects on my hands.

I dont know the weight of my subs and enclosure
You'll have to read who I was responding to..... They wanted to know the weight of the MDF board not why the board bends, the sub and enclosure were used as a benchmark.

Yes get the 1/2 inch MDF it will hold hella weight. Just go to Home Depot and look at some, you'll understand the strength after looking!

humm sounds like fun! i think i might go run 2 lowes right now!!what if we used a staple gun and stapled the carpet to the MDF then cutting out the handle. I hate pulling out the carpet then the cardboard stuff. Mines all flinsey now becuase a little gas leaked back there from 4 wheeling

Ill take pics, im going to lowes now! maybe ill make a little spot to hold my hood arm, since the hood struts are shot

I used 3/4 MDF extensivly for building sub boxes back in the day. A box for 2 12" subs weighed about 40lbs. To cover the entire trunk in MDF would definitly be an improvement but the added weight in my opinion is not worth it. Not only that but unless you cut out handles and keep a 2 peice design you'll never be able to get it back out. Did i mention MDF is heavy. Other than that it is a GREAT product and would be a great solution to the sagging problem. MDF does not sag. Period.

Im not familiar with 1/2 MDF but would probably be better due to less weight.

A large sheet of lexan plastic would also be a good waterproof replacement but would need support from below or it too would sag. Once you get the plastic thick enough not to require support your back tot he weight issues of MDF with probably 200x the cost.

i would get one that just covers the entire trunk rather than a new one cut out to the same size.

I know that it's an old thread and some of you old heads don't like when noobies resurrect the dead... I've finally decided to do it after seeing this thread and this is what i threw together in about 2 hours (including time to pick up materials). I went to lowes and bought 2 pieces of 16"X36" , 1/2 inch MDF for $10 and a pair of small 3 holed hinges $3 (to access your spare tire with out having to take out the sub). I basically just traced the trunk mat and gave the MDF an inch from the edge. I wish i would've remembered to take pictures at the beginning. the trunk metal bottom is unlevel so you just need to use a leveler and shimmies of wood.

Pic3: Fits decent

Pic4: JL 10W3v3 in sealed 1/2" MDF, powered by Kicker 400.1. It sounds great, nice tight bass.

Good job phun. I'm confused though. When you show a picture of your board, it looks like it's raised 1.5-2" above the rest of the trunk. But then when your trunk carpet is laid down, it looks flush. How does that work?

haha, the poor quality pictures from the iphone i guess made it look nicer. the 2-3 inch difference is still there, but i actually like it a lot b/c now they act as tray for when i go grocery shopping and the other tray holds my emergency bag.
