goin to the exhaust shop
well the time has come for my 97 to go to the shop to get the new cat. so while its there i figured that i would have them put on a full exhaust from the y pipe back. but here is my question. what diameter piping should i use. im thinkin 2.5 because i want my car to have a low tone growl somewhat like a 350z but nothing louder.
i am also goin to use my stock walker replacement muffler that the shop put on about a year ago after my accident. so i figure that should help with tone reduction. also should i have them put in a resonator?

cat can be replaced by urself if u have good tools. i had to blow torch mine off. y-pipe can also be installed urself as well as the b-pipe. 2.5 is the way to go. go mandrel bent and GET A RESONATOR.

yea i know i can replace the cat and the y but the shop i go to knows us very well. (ive given them a ton of buisness) so they volunteered to put the cat and y in for nothing .
also will it sound ok with the stock walker muffler.
by saying that i mean louder then stock but not very ricey

From what i hear from people on this board, 2.5" catback w/ stock type muffler has a very nice humm to it, not loud, but noticeble. I'm also trying to find the right exhaust setup for myself, and im leaning towards y pipe, stock cat, 2.5" catback with stock muffler and a nice tip.

I have a budget y, stock cat, 2.5" non-mandrel, non-resonated b-pipe, and a "calsonic nissan" stock replacement muffler. I like the sound, its "healty"... not too much louder than stock. it does rasp between shifts or revs, it sounds a little weird inside the car but better outside. If i ever go w/an aftermarket muffler though, it'll be time for a resonator. Don't think i'll do that though, its a nice setup as is.

You wont get the Z sound ....
Do you have an aftermarjet y-pipe? I didn't read that you did anywhere .. Get that fist. And stick with stock exhaust, besides the y-pipe, it's all for rice sound and looks anyway, gives minimal if any performance gains.

Just install the new y pipe, and get a resonated good quality custom 2.5" b pipe and use the stock muffler. If its too loud(wont be), just add another resonator, it shouldnt be much of a problem. Catback adds like 5-8whp if ur lucky, but i think its worth it.
