Just got my car back from exhaust place, Borla installed

Got car back, Borla installed....(videos)
I finally got my car back from the exhaust place, and i couldnt be any happier. I hate rice, and i told myself that if there was even a hint of rice in my exhaust note, i'd tell them to take it off on the spot. Needless to say, the exhaust is staying on.
I got custom 2.5" SS pressure bends in the B pipe, with an 18" resonator(pretty sure its 18), welded to a Borla Pro XS muffler and a double sided SS 4" tip. It looks pretty damn good, the tip could sit a little higher, but i dont want to run the risk of melting my paint/bumper since the tip gets very hot. The reason why i didnt go with mandrell is because i couldnt find an exhaust shop around here that does mandrell, and plus its a catback, not much power is expected from them, so it doesnt really matter if i lose 2hp from it being crush bent.
I don't know if there was any increase in power(probably not), i couldnt tell because it was raining and i dont like to push my car in the rain. Now lets get to the sound: its great. It's VERY quiet, with just a slight hint of it being aftermarket. I would say this setup is ideal for somebody who wants quiet, but with a little deeper sound than stock. On the highway with the cruise set at 70mph, you can hear it very slightly, not even close to being loud enough to bother anybody inside the cabin or outside. City driving, its also pretty quiet, but a bit louder than it is on the highway. You can't hear it below 1.7k rpm and above 2.7k rpm, so its all good. I'll give an updated review after a week or two and 500 miles when the exhaust breaks in completely. For first impression though, i highly recomend it to somebody who wants quiet, but aftermarket.
Here is the video link. From the outside, its sort of an exotic car sound. If you detect any rice in these videos, its because of the camera, not the exhaust. I can guarantee to anybody thats getting this exhaust that theres no rice at all.

I trust the B pipe is less restrictive than stock and you probably picked up some whp there. I believe a Budget stainless steel resonated B pipe adds about 5 whp, so you may be in that order of magnitude increase.
Do you have an aftermarket y-pipe?

I'll get pics tommorow probably, and i'll try to get a video. Last time i tried to upload a video, the sound never worked, so i gave up on that.
BTW, i don't have a y pipe, but i plan on getting one and when i do, i'll get another resonator welded in.

You should have at least found a place that does pressure bends. My plan will be to buy mandrel bends and have a custom made bpipe.
Anyways, nice muffler choice, I would love to hear clips of it.

but you guys don't know that the machine for mandrel bending SS is ridiculous expensive. only one shop in NJ can do that for me. As far as I'm concerned. so think about it, the only shop in NJ, i know i would be charging a hell of a price. PPL n cal SS but not SS n mandrel, ppl can do Mandrel, but not mandrel n SS, only MAndrel n alumniized......-= )~

I have the same muffler as 4X4, but I wanted mandrel bends so I bought a budget b-pipe and had it hooked up to that with a slight bit of custom work. I drove a 2000 stock max the other day (5 speed like mine) and let me say my '97 with just the catback and frankencar intake definitely pulls harder. I was surprised I noticed such a difference. I have pics of my setup on my cardomain as well (mine has a Borla tip on it). And I can provide soundclips upon request, though I believe most of you have heard mine already. 4X4 I'm glad you like the setup, though mine is a bit louder than yours based on how quiet you describe it. Maybe my resonator is smaller and/or the crush bends muffel the sound more than mandrel bends do. Hope you continue to like it...excellent choice muffler

I'm so happy to hear that it sounds good!!! I picked up my Borla from the UPS outlet last night...I was a little nervous about how loud it would be but now I'm not. I'll be using my stock bpipe so I'm thinking mine might be louder than yours. I PM'd you to ask how it worked out but obviously that was before I saw your thread! That tip looks pretty good too...Its gonna be so hard for me cause I probably won't have mine all installed until next week!!!

Hey 4X4 upon looking at your pics again I just realized something. Who'd you have install the exhaust? They shouldn't have welded the hangers in the spots they did on the muffler. The Borla warranty even states that nothing can be welded to the muffler's shell or it voids the warranty. The hangers should have been welded to the outer seams on each end of the muffler. Just thought I'd let you know..maybe you can get some $ back from the shop for them installing it improperly

Thanks, got that WinAce and it works now! Sounds great...I wonder how much different mine will sound with the stock bpipe? I'll try to post a video to compare. I'll be picking up my tip on Friday or Saturday then I'll get it all installed as soon as possible next week! I'm very excited...

I agree that the sound will vary somewhat but I have a feeling the sound differences between the stock b-pipe and 4X4's custom crush bent pipe will be very negligible. My setup, while still fairly quiet as long as I'm not at WOT, is noticeably louder than 4X4's, but I have a stainless mandrel bent b-pipe with a magnaflow resonator and the borla muffler and an intake. I'm predicting it'll be louder once I do the y-pipe as well. I think this goes to show you that this is one of the best universal mufflers you can buy for our cars because it's very versatile (can be quiet or loud depending on what you want) and I haven't heard a car with this muffler ever sound bad (I've heard maximas and wrx's with them...which both have very different sounding engines). Just my 2 cents

mine is loud....but i also have mandrel bends (2.5" piping) going to a 3" in/out muffler...if u know anyone that welds i would suggest ordering 3 mandrel u bends and a 7' piece of stainless straight pipe and make ur own it cost me 50 for pipe and like 40 for tyhe muffler and 3 hours of my time
