Would a bad MAF affect WOT?

Would a bad MAF affect WOT? (I'm not talking about a completely shot MAF where you can't rev above 2k rpms.)

Thanks

A bad MAF could affect idle, partial throttle, and wide open throttle. Erratic idle, stalling, surging, and/or hesitation are all symptoms of a bad MAF.

what kinda of problems are you experiencing? a bad maf can cause many different problems, like calsonic said.

Well I've been having alot of hesitation that has progressively gotten worse. What would "surging" feel like?

When my MAF went...it wasnt completely gone, but caused the car to stall out immediatly after hitting normal operating tempature. I had to ditch it a few times because it died. Quite upsetting. If its going...then replace it, dont let it ruin your ride.

I'd describe surging as a super long hesitation....Say you go WOT, and the car feels extremely sluggish for a sec or two or whatever...you're still keeping your foot on the pedal...then all of a sudden the car accelerates like normal.

Symptoms of a bad MAF do get progressively worse...

Could be coilpacks as well. I've had bad coilpacks that only became evident at higher throttle positions.

That's exactly what I've been feeling. Unfortunately the 4th Gen MAF is like $500. Anyone have suggestions on what I should do?

I replaced mine with coilpacks with 40k on them a few months ago. Wouldn't I get a Cylinder Misfire CEL?

buy a used maf from someone here on the org or on ebay. you will be able to find one for about $40-$60. you could go through 5 used mafs and still not equal the price of one new one.

Get one from car-parts.com

You enter in the the year of your car & the part you are looking for, and it'll search junkyards throughout the US. I recently got a MAF from a '99 for only $35 plus $15 (expedited shipping since I needed it fast).

Only if it happens during extended intervals.

Are you talking about Dave Burnette? Yeh he quoted me like $486. The 5th gen MAFs are cheap as hell but they also go bad sooner.

Would it be listed as Air Flow Meter on Car-Parts.com??

What loe max said is likely true. I personally don't know when it will cause the misfire code, I do know that when I had bad coilpacks, I did NOT have a misfire code, so no it won't always cause a misfire code, that much I know.

my MAF wires were loose and the red wire eventually came out, and driving above 3k was impossible. I opened the MAF and somehow connected all the wires back , and happily everything turned out ok. But a Bad MAf will def. cause hesitation, jerking probs.
