Upper Intake Manifold Gasket
I knew I was forgetting something. After seeing the thread with the shiny valve cover, I need to find out if replacing the intake manifold gasket is pretty straightforward job to do. I have those dirt/oil stains right at the gasket and the car does have 230,000 on it. I'll be checking the Chilton's later, but any other advice would be great. Looke din stickies and google searched-nogo.

You might have to remove some things mounted onto the IM, but otherwise, its straight foward and maybe time consuming. The IM isn't light by any means, so don't be alarmed if you cant remove it it on the first try, just wiggle it alittle bit and you should be able to break the seal. The Bolts that hold it down are IIRC either 10 or 12mm.

You might not even have to take the USIM all the way off. When I put on the MEVI, I screwed up the gasket, so I got a new one, and took off the front bolts, and just loosened the back ones (2 I think), and slid the old gasket out and the new one in. Just make sure it stays in the right place when you torque the manifold back down.

A retrofitted manifold ... oh please. There is such a small community of Maximas in racing compared to the rest that they probably couldn't tell you that your 5 inch exhaust is aftermarket. But to the techincal part ... why does it place it in a different class because you have a different IM? Or would they dyno your car and see the numbers/graph???

How many factory cars do YOU see with 5" exhaust? And no, mine is not 5" either.
Secondly, if you install a part that is seen or known to provide an ADVANTAGE in HP, and that part IS NOT APPROVED in the rulebook, the car will be illegal or other drivers that are familiar with the car can file an official protest and get the engine torn down, AT YOUR EXPENSE. This ain't no run what you brung stuff.
There is cheating in racing, no doubt, but I don't have the time or the $$$ to get stuff torn down, especially if somehow I was able to walk down and pass cars that I shouldn't be passing.
It's also just not worth the time or effort to me either. My car is plenty fast enuff by it's own self....
Without getting too far in b4 I get flamed and redirected to the Racing Forum, in IT (Improved Touring), exhaust is free (open), brakes and suspension can be upgraded but STOCK parts must be used (no BBK), suspension points cannot be relocated. Engine can be blueprinted, mild port & polish, no big cams, intakes are allowed, and so on. If you have an SCCA club where you are go to a meeting and talk to 'em.
