needed info: 95 GLE, auto, bone stock, needs a wash and an oil change.

as the title says, i notice a little rasp at about 5k when im WOT. i had to jam onto the freeway a few times and avoid traffic and heard it then. i guess its bees in the can,,, i can try to take a vid of it and see if it catches the sound(i dont think it will)

1) is this my excuse to toss a warpspeed Y-pipe in?
2) any deals on pipes right now?
3) how much will instalation be?
4) the eternal: which y-pipe do i want. please note im cheap and have next to no $
5) what oil should i request when i get a change?
6) if i dare ask... does a FSTB really do anything? ive heard it helps ALOT, and ive heard it does nothing. what gives?

Dude ... you are about to get flamed beyond all belief. But to add another Y-Pipe thread to the list, do not get ANYTHING CHEAP!!! I learned that the hard way with a Budget-Y. Go Cattman and nothing less. If you do the cheap crap you are going to hate the sound or it will fail on you again.

1.) Having a Maxima is an excuse to put a CATTMAN-Y in
2.) No there are no good deals.
3.) Please install it by yourself ... Step 1: Loosen the bolts; Step 2: take out the O2 sensors; Step 3 Put the new one in ... done deal.
4.) If you are broke then you shouldn't be modding your car ... modding a car isn't cheap and is very addictive ... stay away from it if that is the case.
5.) OIL lol ... just tell them you want an oil change. Doesn't make a difference because a Maxima isn't a Ferrari or $45,000 luxury sedan.
6.) FSTB is cool, costs $30, takes 5 minutes to install, SLIGHTLY helps in cornering. It was my first mod and I don't regret it because HEY ... it costs $30.

You should look at the 500 other previous threads about this stuff.

I just put in a warp speed y pipe. $160 dollars shipped and fit wonderfully. Some exhaust shops may not be too inclined to do this for you since it is technically illegal. Fluid and Lubricants section for oil info. You should look into doing it yourself. It is quite easy and you get peice of mind knowing you did it right. It is a introduction to doing work on your car yourself. Check out the write up on www.motorvate.ca

"bees in a can" is usually a problem if you already have a y-pipe installed and you have a failing flex section. Since you're bone stock, and a 95, I'm figuring your exhaust is rusting and it developed a leak somewhere, maybe your cat is blown out and not doing it's job? I wouldn't just go out and grab a y-pipe and hope it fixes the problem. Have your exhaust system checked first.

The rest of your questions will be answered in the stickies. They're nice to read before hand and will teach you a bit about your car.

And don't fear the flaming. Once you read the stickies and you still don't understand something, you SHOULD ask. That's what this forum is for. Who cares if a few idiots take shots at you on line. Most guys that flame, usually don't know enough to act that way anyways, they just want to feel important. The people that really know their stuff, rarely bother to join a thread just to call you stupid. Good luck man.

You are the one who should get flamed!

In one breath you are adamant that he buy a Cattman y-pipe, which I whole heartedly disagree with, and in the next breath you say it doesn't matter what kind of oil he uses, WTF!

You just need a new flex section. Take the Y-pipe to magic muffler and they will replace it.

Do stock pipes have a flex section?

OK god of knowledge ... I wasn't flaming. I told him he was going to get flamed. And what kind of oil do you champs use? Our cars don't need synthetic.

I use Mobil1. I read somewhere synths clean the engine better. That's why it causes leaks on some cars. It gets rid of the sludge that's blocking/sealing some small gaps.

I wasn't coming from the dino vs synthetic debate. I was thinking more about weight, viscosity, TBN, sheer, quality etc.

I have my oil changed by a favored shop. The owner used to own a 96 so I trust them with my car. Best customer service and prices. They always have my car done in under 3 hours if I am having a s***-load done. I know it isn't synthetic, and I am guessing it is Mobile because they have their decals hung all over the shop.

I suggest you find out precisely what brand and weight of oil goes in your car if you remotely care about it. Just because the owner used to own a 96 means diddley squat, lol!

Then change it at 4 or 5K as 3K miles is overkill unless its all stop and go city driving and if it were your motor oil wouldn't look brand new.

yes, but if you ever look at the contruction of the OEM flex-pipe, its extremely difficult to actually tear it. You might tear the outside weaving, but that weaving is covering a metal accordian section which is durable.

thanks guys.. i nkow about the stickies and i read most. hehe

sounds to me like theres nothing wrong with my car at all and im just looking for a way to drop in a new pipe for a little more umph and a sweet sound. *eyeroll*

as for oil.. i heard mobil1 on here before, so ill just ask for that(cant hurt can it? besides i wont be paying for the oil change i dont think)
i dont think i should worry about going over 4k miles since i had my oil changed.(actually since i bought it, i got it from an exotic and volvo car dealer, so they changed the oil) i checked it soon after i got it and it looked like honey.

anywho, should i save up a little money and think about a y-pipe, or some other mod?
if i need my brakes done(theyve developed a squeek) should i look at aftermarket brakes?

unrelated(kinda): i cant find the $30 FSTB anymore.. arg. after that, would i be better off lowering the car then putting some 17's on it? handling > straight line speed right? as y ou saw im cheap and broke, can a lower be done cheaply? used parts? or am i looking at ~$800 for parts and however much instalation is

Handling IS greater than straight line speed. But if you really wanted incredible handling, you woulda bought some other car.

okay this is interesting. i have pretty much an identical noise to what the original post creator is explaining. AND i seem to have a leak of some sort after a couple weeks of having my y pipe in.
and the rest of my exhaust is rusty as hell. i'm going to replace probably all of the exhaust in the upcoming months and find out what the hell is making that noise. I also kinda dont think its the flex section, seeing as how its a brand new pipe, that would just be plain lame.

Check the three connecting points on the Y-pipe. That's where my current leak is now. It might be a slight leak that you can only notice if there is load on the engine.

the noise i hear doesnt bother me at all, it sounds kinda cool cuz its only at high RPM with WOT.

like they said, its probably a tiny leak.

I got the custome enterprise Y-pipoe for about couple months and its great...i luv the way it sounds..
its about 300 with high flow cat and i you can do it yourself...its pretty simple.
about your oil I use mobil1 sythetic its a bit more expensive but i luv it...
FSTB does make a difference if you like to take hard turns and corners..if not don't waste your money.

I'm redoing almost the entire exhaust on my gf's max. the only thing I didn't replace was the exhaust manifold and the cat. Even the cat though I nearly replaced the damn thing because I had to cut all four bolts off and drill them out because they were rusted to the point where they had no more thread on the outside, were about half the diameter, and the other end was completely rounded. all 3 hangers rusted off on the pipe side in the middle section, muffler was in terrible shape, and flex section was nearly destroyed. When in doubt.... replace the stock exhaust!

1)If u want more go, get ur y-pipe then
2)Don't know of any deals, chek group deals or for sale forums
3)I dont have too many tools here so i had a shop install it for $50 bucks
4)if ur cheap and have little to no money, dont worry...Budget is pretty cheap, many people claim some bad experiences but i had none, got mine like 4 months ago, had mine shipped to me for $220 i believe, dont know the price for anything else as i dont need to know anymore
5)i use Castrol, to tell u the truth i dont remember if i use 10w30 or 10w40, i think i switch bak n forth cuz i never remember which i got the time before. my filter is fram, i remember seeing that it was proven to be the worst one, but i still use it
6) i dont speed on turns
