Caliper Mounting Bracket

Caliper Mounting Bracket
I bought my car 2 months car ago and the brake pads looked fine, well 2 days ago they started to squeal so i went and bought new pads, and when i took off the front right off, i noticed that the pad on the outside was fine but on the inside the pad was tappered, one of the sliders on the bracket had seized, is this a normal problem. Is there a way it can be fixed without buying a new caliper unit, or bracket?

Pull out the pins and clean it and its cavity thoroughly. Then apply some fresh caliper grease to the pins and boot and you should be all set.
The uneven wear could either be binding pins, or the caliper may not be able to slide on the retaining clips - so make sure you clean those properly before seating your new pads.

I had one of my pins siezed on my fronts on my last brake pad change and i did the following:
1. attach the bracket that has the pin siezed to the car tightly. Very tight. You don't want the braket to move around for step 2. It will absorb the impact if it does move around.
2. Get a long flat head screw driver and a sturdy hammer. Place the tip of the screw driver under the flat top of the seized pin. Hammer the screw driver hard a few times. Move the tip of the screw driver around the circumference of the pin so you hit it from all angles. After a few hard blows it will pop out. I then did as mentioned above. Clean the hole thoroughly with a flat head screw driver that fits in the hole and clean the pin too. Then re-grease the hole and pin. Viola good brakes again!!!!!

Let us know if you get it fixed. Don't forget to put PCB grease on the back of the pads, both sides of the shims, and on the caliper piston when putting in your new pads. This will greatly reduce the chances of squeels, groans, and squeeks. PCB can be bought at a dealer or you can get an aftermarket too. The aftermarket hasn't worked for me as well as the dealer one. Check out the TSB's by Jatan in the stickys for more info.

Caliper pins
I just helped my son do the front brakes on his 99 Maxima. We went with ceramic pads this time. The drivers side inner pad was worn to metal and ruined the rotor. The other 3 pads were about half life. The slide pins were a bit stiff on the left side. We cleaned them well and greased them using the purple ceramic grease.
My question is about the pins. One on each side has a black sleeve on it, the other doesn't. Does it matter which position that goes on, top or bottom on each caliper bracket? Also, one was missing, the other seemed a bit swollen and had to be pushed into the bracket. I'm going to get new caliper pin sets, but I'm not sure where to put the sleeved one.
Thanks
