Changed fuel filter, now CEL?!?

Hey everyone, I just took out my seemingly never changed fuel filter and put in a Wix filter in its place, but then I turn the max on and get a CEL? Anyone know what may have caused this to happen? All I did was change a damn filter! Thanks

Sorry I should have checked the codes before posting. Here's what I came up with...

0102 - MAF
0407 - Crankshaft Position Sensor

What boggles my mind is why would simply changing the fuel filter cause these codes? Should I just reset the light and see if it comes back? If not what else would you suggest doing? Thanks

Did you unplug anything that was in the way? Check to see if the wires that plug into the maf are in.

Nothing was in my way (i'm good at working in tight areas) so all sensor plugs, etc... were left untouched

You may have kicked something lose...check both of those connections, reset the ECU and see if they come back...if they do, then it sounds like it was a coinisidence

I just reset the light and drove the car around hard for 10 minutes. Car pulls VERY hard now (nearly soiled my pants). Guess my fuel filter must have been quite dirty, I don't really know. Either way I know with code 0102 the ECM is supposed to switch into fail safe mode and limit the engine speed to 2400rpms but I was redlining every gear with no problem so I guess that can't be a problem.

As for the 0407 code maybe I sort of "weakened" my starter a little bit while trying to get the vaccuum out of the fuel lines so I could remove the filter? That's all I can think of for now, but the car is running fantastic. I did a quick oil change after changing the fuel filter as well to hold me over until I order a bunch of Amsoil stuff. I'll give the car 1-2 weeks to see if the CEL comes back on but if not then I guess it was just some freak thing and shouldn't worry about it. Thanks for the quick replies everyone, I'll be sure to post if the CEL comes back on
