The nice thing about not taking those hoses off is you dont leak any coolant. The cylinder 1 injector is easy enough to get to with just pulling the manifold up about 5 inches. Just a tip if any1 has to do work on cylinder 1 save alot of time and having to clean up coolant :-)

Getting it to "break its seal" is what makes it seem hard to me when i had to pull it off today i just moved the clamp pretty close to the one thats near the manifold and gave it a good twist kinda feels how a bolt loosens that first time u turn it and then after that just jiggle it off. Long needle nose plyers make it a whole lot easier since there's very little room back there.

Not the PCV valve but the air leak around it from the bad grommet.

So i replaced that pcv seal today. Fixed the starting issue and the RPM drops but still lots of smoke. I also did an oil change today incase stuff got in my oil. Just puzzled dont know where the smoke could be comming. The smoke just smells like normal exaust nothing funky so dont think its anti freeze plz help

yeah. if the motor's running properly in terms of idling, I'd drive it to get it extensively (with someone following you, JUST in case) to get it warmed up.
BUT, is it still white smoke like in the pic you posted? You REALLY should get the compression test done bro....

Most likely coolant. Change your head gasket before you crack the head or seize your motor.

Not coolant not Oil checked both had it running all this time levels for both havent changed and coolant would have a smell and the amount of smoke im getting it would have been eaten away at my oil and the oil is at the same level as a month ago so it aint that so why you gotta give me attitude like im an idiot
Is there anything else other than those two that cause smoke thats y i asked. Its going into the shop tomarrow anyways im tired of trying to find out why i got this miss ive tried everything

that sounds like a good idea...but make sure u go to someone u know....if not..then make its a reputable shop. the dealer will tell u whats wrong since they have to i believe, but a reg shop might not since they don't wnat to tell u whats wrong so u can bring it home n fix it yourself...

The place im going to is a bunch of hungarian guys that have always been honest with me. If its something cheap ill let them fix it just to save me the hastle just cant afford to pay a shop a couple hundred bux to do a head gasket or somethin

I doubt you pour water on top of your motor and it gets into the intake. It's gotta be either oil or coolant.

Foggy memory, but doesn't the VQ using some special coating in the bores? Nikasil or something like that? See what the Engine forum has to say on it.
Also may to take a look at this for your own reading. The VQ is mentioned briefly..

Ive been havin cylinder 1 missing problems for a long time though. Its very possible that its a ring and has always been one and ive just been beating around the bush. Im gettin a price from a friend of some1 i know who said he could hook me up. If he gives me a price like less then 500 and says he'll make it run right ill do it

If you get compression then you probably have bad piston rings.
If you still get no compression, the lower end may not be whats wrong.
A leaky cylinder head gasket will give you 0 compression.

What do you guys recomend depending on the problem. If its a head gasket? or Piston rings. Pay someone to do it what should be the limit i pay before i do it myself and should i just get a crate engine or pay for the rings or gasket to be replaced
#74
dont replacing piston rings need all these special tools to do like ring compressors and stuff? like i felt like it was a big enough pain doin the tube seals and the valve cover seals how much harder is this stuff?

Dude no offense. But go watch Karate Kid.

Just take the junk apart. You wouldnt get coolant in your combustion chamber from bad piston rings. It's 95% likely something in the top end. LIKE THE FRIGGIN HEAD GASKET.
Look in a Haynes manual. Do a mental check to see if you can do this. Your engine is basically semi-toast as it is. What more can you do?
Putting 500 posts on this looking for answers when you can just open a simple manual and look at it - is worthless.

You've already taken everything down to the heads apart before - so just work from there down... like PAREDLINE says, if you can't put sh*t back together, you are no worse off.. the car is not driveable as is, so if you end up screwing up, just get the new motor (you have that in your pocket as a backup plan either way). Why not chance it and try to fix it first.

I dnt like u paredline u always make me feel like an idiot cause im lazy lol. =) ya its my parents pushin me to pay some1 to do it for me not me. It looks like im going to do it myself unless i get a really good deal. I read the haynes manual it never makes me feel confident in how hard or easy something is. Everything seems so damn easy till u go to do it. I was just curious whats your oppinions on how much more it is i dnt know if u guys have done it yourself or not. Removing the plenum isnt really much for me anymore had to do that so many times. Out of everything the thing i hate most is having to get those tube seals back over the tubes when putting the valve cover back on. do you guys have any tips on that part of it?

Look back in the posts. I gave you the advice to check your head gasket a long time ago.
There are people with experience on these boards. You dont listen to them. You just re-post and re-post and re-post.
You're like some of my crackhead patients who do crack against medical advice then come into your office to cry and say how much their life sucks without any teeth....
How do I unsubscribe from this thread by the way?
