The 4th gen is getting old quick. I would consider it a downgrade to go from 5th to 4th gen. If I were looking for a maxima today, I'd go with a nice 2001 AE 5spd, or 2k2/2k3 6spd.

Btw, my car's handling is not very impressive, but maybe that's because I'm comparing it to my (previous) nimble Acura Integra.

Hey, you know what they say: If you can dream it, you can become it.

HA! $30! Wait til you get older. I'm working in an internship in NYC this summer and about 1/4 of my paycheck is taxed away.

Anyways, back on topic.... get a '02 6 speed. Don't downgrade.

unless you get the 3.5, it isnt worth it. the 3.5 is faster, with much more power. 255 i think, and a 6.0 0-60. and you would get a better resale value.

Personally, I would not go to a 4th Gen.
1. Cost- Sooner or later, parts are gonna start getting scarce. The generation IS 10 years old with virtually no changes in running gear and minor changes elsewhere.
2. Whether you ride in a stock or modded car, once you compare it back to back with a newer car, you'll WANT the newer car, unless the 4th Gen is your toy.
3. Warranty vs. NO warranty

I agree with all of yhall. The 4th Gen interior to me does look more infiniti like as in the clean design. As all .org'ers I love the 01 AE's. The maxima is my daily driver however so I base my wanted performance on gas milage, acc. response through traffic, and some grunt for zipping around. I think it is a shame that the 4th gens are aging now (10 years) That is going to start getting to old for the car I am looking for. I do not want a track car, since I have a 95' M3 Race Car. I do not want a show car, all I want is the proven reliability and drive-ability of nissan maxima's. Also my 01 is out of warranty and I do not want to spend a dime on repairs. Unfortunately I have to order new O2 sensors, so lucky me.

Although I am a huge fan of the 4th gen, the fact remains they are getting older. stay with the 5th. I am thinking of moving up to a 5th gen myself and keeping my 4th.
