Why is my Maxima loud?

My exhaust seems to be very loud. Not in a bad way, it sounds really good imho. I have a friend with a 98 Maxima and his car is VERY quiet. He can redline it and it sounds like my car at 2k rpms. He still has the stock muffler, and I got a new muffler put on when I bought my car. They are both supposed to be OEM though. Mine is much louder, I'd say easily 10db louder. I thinking that maybe someone put a hi flow cat on the car at one point and that oculd accout for the difference? I doubt it has a Y pipe already since it was owned by a middle aged couple.

What kind of muffler is it? Anything other than stock will be louder.

I'm pretty sure it's an OEM replacement. It looks exactly like my friend's. They are both rusted in the same places too!

Where can I find some tips that will fit the OEM muffler? I'm sick of looking at the rusty pea-shooter tip.

Maybe your muffler just isn't as good as his.....I hope you didn't buy a Pacesetter and think it was OEM. You wouldn't do that, would you?

On my car, on the front of the flex pipe, the steel retaining ring is loose, leaving a small gap. It makes my exhaust kinda loud too. Makes the car sound badass. The only problem is it makes me want to constantly redline the motor, just to listen to the exhaust.

But Im not fixing it unless it falls apart completely.

Maybe that's what I have?

Whatever it is, it sounds freakin awesome and mean as hell. It sounds almost like a Greddy SP2 catback.
