Another knock against Budget/LSS quality...

Dropped in a SS Budget Y about 3 weeks ago, noticed a 'vw' type sound at 2-4K rpm under heavy accel. Checked seals, bolts, etc with no luck. Had a shop look today and there is a small hole in the Y right where the 2 pipes connect, shop guy confirmed a bad weld and said it was in a spot he cannot fix.

Now I have to contact LSS, see if I can get a cross-ship replacement, pull the old, drop in the new, and test. I was hoping for something else - no luck.

Guess the quality rumors about Budget are true *sigh*

You should have looked at the y-pipe closely before installing it. I have no problems with my Budget y-pipe purchased in June 2004.

You could always try to JB Weld it if you dont want othe hassle of taking it off and shipping it back......

It was looked at, by me and my mechanic. Muffler guy said that it was likely a weak area that was not visually evident, but when pressure was applied, popped loose.

Will JB weld work in an area where pressure is involved? I'd hate to bung up the pipe if it will cause issues with me returning it if it does not work.

Warpspeed for sure

Indeed Warpspeed Y pipe kick a$$!!! im new on the businees of getting my car modded, but hell this thing is pretty quiet on daily driving, and it gives a little roar when i kick it to the floor, not forget to mention the amount of power that added to my ride. Best bang for the buck. I recommend it.

no offense...but i personally think that having a lil noise issue should be the least of your problems. i understand that it shouldn't be there, but it is, so therefore should just save yourself the time n trouble n just leave it. if its a decent sized hole then i would say its worth it since you will lose hp. but if its as small as i think you're saying it, then i wouldn't worry about it. i know that every lil bit helps the hp, but i just dun think it would hurt that much...

The sound is like pissed off bees in a can. You my friend are one of the lucky ones . There have been many posts here from people with noise issues with the WSP pipe. I bought a stainless steel WSP a while back, it was supposed to be one of their new ones with the better flex section. Well I have the bees that I am not supposed to have. I spoke with Dallas several times, and really got nowhere, as there was not much he could do from there. I just ended up wrapping the pipe just from under the O2 sensors all the way back, rigth up to where the y-pipe meets the cat. This helped out a great deal. I really like the performance that I get from the y-pipe, just not the noise that it had before I wrapped it. I recently took the wrap off to check the pipe for rust (not an issue) and see if there was much noise after doing a little mod to it. The noise was still there, so I wrapped it again yesterday. Bees are gone again.

You may have to bend the catalytic converter brackets in a little to avoid any noise issues from there. This could be the rumble you are hearing. The OEM flex section has a lot of give compared to the aftermarket pipes, I think that is why you don't have those issues with the OEM pipes. Since the flex is very stiff on these pipes the cat bracket moves alot more that before because the flex is passing on the movement/vibration, instead of just absorbing it like the OME one.

You're right on on the VW decription, like what you would hear from a super beetle or karmen ghia. tic tic tic tic....

To counter another message, the noise is not small. Loud in the cabin with windows up, loud outside, and loud when refracting of other cars, walls, etc. Intially was evident in high load situations (WOT @ 2-4K), now more pronounced in all RPMs at med load. Sounds like an exhaust leak, why should I accept it when I just bought the pipe for $200? Screw them if they make a bad product, I require satisfaction dammit

Standing up for the little man!!!

I highly doubt there is an area that "can't" be accessed. If budget was able weld it, so should most anyone else. You can cut/grind the area and reweld it shut.

I had to mess with my old Cattman Y a few times to fix the ridiculasly short flex section that always breaks.
