K&N Air Filter
#2
Yes, but only slightly. The main advantage of the K&N panel filter is the ability to reuse the filter instead of buying a new one.
If you want any real gains, you have to switch to a cone style (JWT/Stillen) filter or a CAI(cold air intake) type.
Do a search on both. It will yield much information.

There may or may not be any performance gains.
But, I feel I've definitely gotten my money's worth. I've had mine for over 100k miles. I would have bought several paper filters by now, but I've saved money by just cleaning the K&N.
