Clutch question.

Can a Clutch get "soaked" in oil? If I am leaking oil from my input shaft or anywhere and it gets on the clutch can it get soaked into the clutch and ruine it? I wonder since my car is daily driven so any oil on the surface would get evaporated when I start to drive around.

I was thinking about this when I drove my car to do some homework, and in the morning I always (as of lately) feel some slip going on, but goes away after a few mins of driving (where I change gear fairly often). I believe that the oil wouldnt get a chance to sit on their long enough to really soak into the clutch (except for overnight).

any thoughts?

happened to DR-Max. His rear main was leaking engine oil so badly, that it was soaking his clutch disk and causing the thing to slip. So, he replaced the rear main while he put in a new clutch.

So then the clutch does act like a spong and will soak up oil if its on their for enough time?

probably wont soak up too much with a small leak, but yeah, they're fiberous like brake pads. but then again there are "wet" type clutches also

when it comes to an end in 3 days.......congrats !!

yea I'm pretty sure there is a small leak, cause int he mornings after she's sat all night, I get some slip but it goes away. I hope its comming from the tranny, I'm going to swap that out soon anyway, just hope its not the rear main seal, I remember i30s horry thread on that.

thanks for the congrats, i'm running around like a mad man trying to get everything done.

I know, I plan on taking out the tranny when I get up the money for a new one and clutch, hope she hold together till them.

I already lost one clutch to a leaky tranny, seems like its happening again...*sigh*
