Low RPM's and power
Low RPM's and power
I have been experiencing some problems for awhile now with shifting and the RPM levels. When I start my car it idles at around 600-700 RPMs. If I step on the gas and get it up to 40 or so and then let go, my RPMs drop to around 500 again. I then have to give it a little gas to get it to stay at around 1200 RPMs. My shifting happens between 1000 and 2000 RPMS unless I really step on the gas. After driving it for awhile, it feels like the car is dragging.
If anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated. My car is a 99 with 70k on it. I herd about maybe cleaning out the throttle body, but I dont know.
During the winter my car died because I left the lights on and it took a few times to jump start it, I have a 2 year old optima battery and my lights dont dime or anything like that. I dont know if this has anything to do with the problem.

There are no CEL's and its an auto. It idles fine on start up, but after engine is warmed up and im stopped it drops to 500 RPM's. When I am going 40 and im inlike 4th gear and my RPM's are at like 1200-1300. I hit the gas a few times and the acceleration is delayed or it kicks in to gear a second or two later. What are the coils and how much do they cost. I am getting the 60 mile tune up in a day or two. Hopefully that will help.
i'd put my money on the coils for us 99'ers
they run about $200? for the whole set, but you can test out the coils and just replace the defective one with a new one, or a used one from a 95-98 (since the only year with coil problems is 99). you've described what i put up with everyday. bein broke doesn't help me either.
good luck and try doing the 60k mile service yourself. you'll just need a basic ratchet set, new parts, and some common sense. you'll be happy with the money you save. and maybe you can buy new coils with that saved money.
