Inexpensive OBD-II scanners -- Are they worth it?

I've seen OBD-II scanners for under $100. Are they any good?

Any OBD-II code scanners are good, especially when clearing the codes. Just press a button, and the check engine light is gone! Also, it's good for reading codes (of course) instead of using the "turning the screw" method. I heard alot of people, after awhile, ruined their screw by overturning its "stop" point. Yeah, when I had my '95, I didn't need a scanner, but now that I have a 5th gener, I definitely need it. Nissan got smart and did away with the DIY method, and eliminated the way of reading CEL codes. I then bought a code scanner for around $100 and love it! Very well worth it.!

Untrue.
Its usefull to detect other non-cel codes as well. I went to my dad's mechanic with the maxima one day and have been telling him the car is sluggish because of the knock sensor....but of course since the CEL light wasn't on he didn't believe me. More so neither did the mechanic. I told them it was a ghost code and it doesn't show up. So he plugs in the OBD 2 reader and bam a code pops up. Looks it up in the book and its the knock sensor.
So from my experience the OBD-II reader may also be able to detect other non-CEL emitting codes.
