had y-pipe looked at for install, need some insight real quick
My uncle knows a mechanic and I took my car to the shop for him to look at my warpspeed y-pipe to see if he can install it and it seems as if he knows how to install it, but...
He said something about the cat convertor and how it's going to be eliminated and that I wont pass emissions. He also told me that in order to pass emissions, I'll need to go back to stock.
And my car is a cali-spec too, so that may have caused some confusion.
Does this guy know what he's talking about or should I fix him up?

He doesn't know what he is talking about. Just take the car in to emissions good and warm and don't shut it off. Take it out on the highway first. Also make sure your oil has been changed not too long prior to testing.
Your catalytic converter will still be in place. The pre-cat(s) just regulates emissions upon start-up when the engine is cold.
How did you manage to get a Cali spec in Maryland?

the y-pipe eliminates pre-cats in the stock y-pipe, which makes it illegal in one respect, but the precats only work when the car's warming up. when it gets to normal operating temp, it should be fine, and you can be able to pass emissions no problem.

As long as your car has reached normal operating temperature, and you still have your main cat in place and it's working, you should have no prob.

Alright so I guess I should give him the green light to go ahead and install my y-pipe
How I managed to get cali spec in Maryland, I have no idea haha, but the car actually originated in Pennsylvania...

How can it not work?

It will work don't worry, sounds like he just doesn't wanna do it.
As far as having a cali spec in maryland, they can be anywhere, just because its a cali-spec car doesnt mean its only going to be in cali.

another reason not to worry about emissions -- you're in MD with a '99. they'll just do the OBDII scan test and gas cap check on your car and you're done. i just had mine checked out and passed, even with the good ol 0304 ghost code in the system.
